SGS is a dynamic and rapidly growing organization. We are seeking a self-driven individual to complement our growing team. Position summary: Manage, develop and publish technical documents covering multiple technical fields to include Information Technology (IT) and security electronics, such as CCTV, access control and intrusion detection systems. The technical writer will work directly with engineers and technicians in order to gain knowledge on the subject at hand, using interviews and observations to gather required details. The technical writer will also be expected to use the systems directly to test the documents from an end users perspective. They will need to coordinate draft documents that will be circulated amongst the group. Additionally, the technical writer will maintain document control, through an approved tracking system and be responsible for publishing approved documents to public web sites. Responsibilities include: o Research and gather information from documents such as rough drafts and manufacturer ??s manuals and/or by interviewing subject matter experts as needed to complete writing assignments. o Format, edit, standardize, proofread and correct information and ideas written by engineers and technicians, in accordance with set standards and arrange it in an understandable and logical order. o Enhance the clarity of material by using concise word choices and ??plain language ? as defined on http://www.plainlanguage.gov o Recreate, manipulate, crop, resize, lighten, label and layout electronic images and graphics such as drawings, schematics and photographs to increase visibility or highlight areas of importance. o Identify and acquire additional information or explanation needed to complete documentation. o Insert tables, text boxes, schematics, diagrams, graphs and figures into documents. o Review publications and propose refinements to content or format. o Track the development of technical material from the initial draft to final approval and publication. o Maintain document version control, revision and approval records. o Recommend and implement document standards, quality controls and content requirements. Requirements include: o Mastery of English language, grammar, structure, punctuation and word spelling. o Capacity to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse group of people to include government personnel holding positions at varying levels. o Ability to effectively express and comprehend both oral and written communications to and from a variety of audiences. o Skilled in the use of information technology systems, software, and media used to produce and store technical publications in electronic format. This includes software proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. o Five years experience employed as a technical writer. o Experience with Microsoft SharePoint. Desired qualifications: o Technical aptitude and experience. o Experience using Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk AutoCAD software. o Experience writing technical documents for the U.S. government or a government contractor and knowledge of the requirements for safeguarding classified information. o Able to implement a document control structure o Self-motivated o Good communications skills o Demonstrated ability to write technical material.
