Technician Surgical Pathology
Assist the Pathologist staff with the receiving, accessioning, dissecting and sectioning of selected biopsies including frozen tissue specimens and other surgical specimens received in the Anatomical Pathology area of the laboratory. These duties are under the direction of the supervisor and Medical director and require medical judgment and minimal supervision. Essential Functions: Grossing of surgical specimens received in anatomical pathology which includes but not limited to accessioning/data entry in LIS, processing (e.g. labeling cassettes), describing via dictation or use of VR system, and dissecting small tissue specimens as well as preparing frozen sections slides for rapid diagnosis under the direction of the pathologist Performs general lab functions (e.g. filing slides and blocks), maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, and maintains patient records Responsible for maintaining and discarding specimens in the pathology specimen closet on a routine basis Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Associate's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology or qualified as a high complexity testing personnel under CLIA regulations Successful completion of a pathology grossing training program - or - two years experience assisting pathology staff in grossing procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy physiology and histology sufficient to identify dissect and describe tissue specimens Requires good judgment to evaluate biopsy specimens select protocols Knowledge of medical terminology specific to anatomic pathology Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent customer service and organizational skills 20 hours per week Monday through Friday. 4 hours per day any block of time between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Primary Location: Ohio-Parma-Parma Medical Center 12301 Snow Rd.
