BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW
Derivatives Clearing Services, within Clearing Operations, is focused on a cutting edge and rapidly evolving area of the industry. The role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the success of Derivatives Clearing Services and also offers significant opportunities for long term career growth and the chance to develop technical, business and leadership skills with exposure to a broad range of products and business flows.
This role is within the London Derivatives Clearing Services team. The global team is 9 people strong, distributed between London and New York. With a number of key strategic projects underway across the range of products, services and infrastructure, this is an exciting time to be joining the team. The team provides development and support to a number of groups across the expanding derivatives clearing business, utilizing SecDB; a proprietary strategic platform.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This role offers the chance to work as part of the development team in partnership with the global derivatives clearing business. The successful candidate will be part of a global team developing key strategic solutions and will be responsible for the full software development life cycle. Projects will vary in size from smaller, time to market individual projects, working closely with the local London users to set requirements and deliver the product; to being part of a project team (either local or global) on some of the larger projects or initiatives.
You will need to:
• Develop and test solutions in accordance within a defined software development process
• Actively participate in design discussions for both business flows and systems design
• Handle user queries and deliver system enhancements
• Project plan and produce technical designs
• Have close interaction with business users to gather functional requirements and discuss day to day processing
• Communicate status of assigned projects to users and IT globally
DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS
The candidate will have the opportunity to:
• Develop a deep understanding of the Derivatives Clearing business and flows across derivatives asset classes
• Gain a detailed understanding of the GS Clearing Operations organization, technical architecture and software development practices

• Build expertise and experience in the various technologies and practices used in Goldman Sachs IT as a whole
SKILL / EXPERIENCE
MANDATORY
• 2+ years of hands on development experience (Java/C++)
• Willingness to cross train to a proprietary programming language (SLANG)
• Experience working with business users and requirements gathering
• Relational database experience (e.g. Sybase, IBM UDB)
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX
• Strong team player (required to work extensively with other teams both locally and globally)
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
PREFERRED
• Experience of financial markets, OTC derivatives in particular will be an advantage but not essential
• Experience working with object-oriented databases
