The Writers Network is a service that aggregates freelance writing talent, leveraging its exclusive community of writers to mass produce short form article content across a variety of verticals, including Home and Garden, Finance and Parenting. These articles are then published to our network of wholly owned and operated websites.
We are currently seeking a temporary User Interface Designer for an approximate 3 month period. This individual will work closely with product managers, designers and developers to define and design world class Web sites. This is a hands-on, creative position in a fast paced, ambitious environment. We are looking for highly creative people who are passionate about design and the Web.
Responsibilities
• Identity design for six new vertical content Web sites, including logo, color palette, and typography.
• Translate wireframes created by product managers and information architects into visual designs.
• Conceptualize and design interactive modules and widgets for new and existing Writer’s Network sites.
• Illustrate and design informational graphics to accompany articles.
• Maintain design consistency across all Writer’s Network sites.
• Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are coded on time and according to spec.
Requirements
• Strong user interface design skills, including typography, layout and color theory.
• Illustration skills are a plus.
• Expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, CSS and Web standards. Knowledge of JavaScript, AJAX and Flash.
• Must have a strong portfolio containing examples of professional design work with an emphasis on Web design.
• Solid understanding of Web best practices and user centered design.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in the face of changing priorities and requirements.
• Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• At least 3 years of experience designing on the Web.
