POSITION DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE:  To load/unload and blend non-hazardous and hazardous vessels, railcars, and trucks in a safe manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Below is a list of essential duties of this position.  Other duties may be assigned as needed.

 

1.       Safely and efficiently load/unload hazardous and non hazardous ocean going barges and vessels.  Complete all loading/unloading per established operational procedures.  Accurately and in compliance with regulations, complete all paperwork.

2.       Act as Person-in-Charge on the dock during vessel transfers.  Board vessels to meet with vessel personnel.  Observe the loading/unloading.  Ensure all activities are handled within company and state/federal policies, practices, regulations, and laws.

3.       During vessel transfer, ensure there are no leaks on pipelines, tanks or pumps by gauging tanks hourly by radar and manual strap gauging.

4.       Safely and efficiently load/unload/blend hazardous and non hazardous trucks.  Complete all loading/unloading per established operational procedures.  Accurately and in compliance with regulations, complete all paperwork.

5.       Safely and efficiently load/unload/blend hazardous and non hazardous railcars.  Complete all loading/unloading per established operational procedures.  Accurately and in compliance with regulations, complete all paperwork.

6.       Align tanks for tank to tank transfer/blend of products by gauging tanks first and then opening appropriate valves before turning on pumps for transfer.  Gauge transfers hourly to monitor for problems.

7.       Using heavy equipment, move railcars, hoses, and similar items.

8.       Attend training seminars and pass required tests for HSE / Operations related criteria, both on0line and hands on.

9.       Demonstrate commitment to the Responsible Care system.  Participate in, promote and follow the Responsible Care system.

10.   Interact and communicate with clients and co-workers in a professional and appropriate manner and respond to and give feedback in a respectful and positive manner.

11.   Take the initiative to identify problems, use judgment to find appropriate solutions and follow through on resolving issues in a timely manner.

12.   Support team efforts, actively work to generate respect and enthusiasm, cooperate with others, and actively learn from other team members.

13.   Reports to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position and willing to perform the duties as workload necessitates.

OTHER DUTIES:

1.    Other duties as assigned or requested.

IF BOILER LICENSE:

1.    Read gauges/equipment to observe pressure, temperature and similar data to ensure boiler is working properly.

 

2.              Control flow of steam or water by opening valves and adjusting regulators.  Regulate volume of water so boilers work properly. Recommend changes to the boiler system to correct unsafe conditions.

3.              Keep records and logs of the boiler system.

4.              Clean and lubricate the boiler’s pumps.

5.              Open drains and wash boilers.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSES:

High school degree or G.E.D.

Boiler license preferred or ability to obtain one

Valid driver’s license

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ø       Minimum (on the job training acceptable) experience in equipment maintenance

Ø       Ability to operate boiler, if applicable

Ø       Customer service focus

Ø       Ability to become certified and operate a motor vehicle, track mobile, forklift, boiler, and similar equipment

Ø       Ability to wear safety equipment, including respirator, shoes, goggles, gloves and similar equipment

Ø       Mechanically inclined and ability and skill in connecting pipelines, hoses, drop tubes, safety cages, and similar equipment

Ø       Ability to perform basic math, read and complete documents and other paperwork as it pertains to non- and hazardous chemicals and the transfer, handling and storage of same

Ø       Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers 

Ø       Ability to change duties throughout the day and to work with a variety of individuals

Ø       Ability to interact with others in a professional and appropriate demeanor and maintain effective working relationships with staff and customers

Ø       Ability to work independently with general direction from supervisor

Ø       Capable of reporting to work on time prepared to perform duties of the position and willingness to perform duties as workload necessitates

Ø       Ability to carry out the duties of this position while helping the company to meet its mission and while adhering to policies, procedures and regulations, especially safety regulations

Ø       Ability to work as part of the Terminal Security Force

While performing the duties of this position, the individual is often exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including rain and heat/cold, noise, fumes, grease, oil, noxious odors, cleaning chemicals, paints, glues, and solvents.  Approximately 80% of the workday is outdoors.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the individual is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb and balance on ladders of heights of 15-40’, walk on elevated walkways, docks, railroad cars roofs and tanks, access confined areas/railroad car bottoms, carry, reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle, feel, and use tools and equipment and communicate (talk and hear).  This position involves standing/bending/stooping/walking/climbing for approximately 90% of the workday.  Frequently the employee is required to kneel, bend, crawl, crouch, push, pull, lift, or twist.  Occasionally the employee is required to lift or exert force of more than 50 pounds.  Frequently, the employee is required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision ability required is close vision of 20 inches or less and vision ability of greater than 3 feet.
