Northrop Grumman Information Systems Sector is seeking a Test Engineer 3 to join our team in Huntsville, AL.
This position is contingent upon award of the Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC), contract funding, and contract start .
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC) in support of the Missile Defense Agency. The GMD element, composed of the Ground Systems (GS) and Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) components, is a critical part of our nation's layered Ballistic Missile Defense System providing the U.S. with the capability to engage and intercept long range ballistic missiles during midcourse flight. The GS component provides the capability to process data received from radars and overhead sensors, communicate across a complex network of redundant nodes, interact with the Warfighter, compute intercept solutions, and command and direct the GBI to intercept. Northrop Grumman has needs in the following GS areas:
GMD Fire Control (GFC) - Battle Management, Command and Control hardware and software
Test Exerciser (TEx) - Simulation test environment
External Systems Interface (ESI) - Interface to external BMDS elements
GMD Communications Network (GCN) -Secure local and wide area network
In-Flight Interceptor Communication System (IFICS) Data Terminal (IDT) - Hardware and software providing RF communications link between GS and the in-flight GBI
Command Launch Equipment (CLE) - Interfaces with the GBI silo, providing the trajectory and the command to launch to the GBI
Position Description:
- Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment.
- Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices.
- Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed.
- Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements.
- Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area.
- Support development through system-level test activities in support of the GFC, TEx, and IDT products of the GMD system as a part of the Test and Evaluation team.
- Development test responsibilities include test planning, test conduct, test reporting, and integration support. Primary development test tasks include developing test procedures and performing data analysis against requirements and interfaces for each software build. Interface with GMD Systems software developers and systems engineers in support of product certification supporting. Additional tasks includes product integration after build release to include product checkout in system test labs and the field.
- System test responsibilities include conducting real-time testing for GMD interface, ground and flight testing in both lab and field environments. Work within the assigned test team includes ability to startup, configure, monitor, and analyze GFC software and connections to other missile defense assets. Conduct real-time evaluation of GFC/C systems status in accordance with mission requirements. Issue commands, directives, and other instructions as required by test objectives. Perform test and support readiness requirements as required. Maintain data and historical files and logs of test events.
- Position requires occasional travel to COS and FGA.
Basic Qualifications - To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Bachelors Degree in a technical discipline or related field with 5 years of related experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
Active or ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications - Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- MDA experience with Battle Management Command and Control.
- GMD experience.
- Software testing experience.
- Experience with UNIX and Client/Server architecture.
