Test Engineer
F5 Networks - Advanced RD Technology Center - San Jose
Position Summary
Performs system testing of F5’s Application Delivery Networking products. This includes designing and maintaining a test network of clients, servers, routers, switches, and dedicated test equipment; creating test cases for large projects based on product documentation and functional specifications; creating, documenting and using test procedures, test cases, and software test tools; executing tests; and documenting test results.
Responsibilities
- Designing and setting up a test network (including clients, servers, switches, routers and dedicated test equipment);
- Using tools to pass traffic across the network;
- Validating proper switching / routing / packet transformation / TCP connections and HTTP transactions are occurring;
- Troubleshooting problems which might be occurring in the: Physical network hardware; or possibly, in an external client, server, or network device.
- Working with other testers, developers, or professional services engineers to qualify and reproduce a problem.
- Accurately identifying and documenting product defects.
- Writing test cases, test concepts and filing defect reports.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of IP networking: routing, switching, and network standards from Layer 2 on up through the transport and application layers.
- Strong knowledge of TCP in a must.
- Understanding and familiarity with various Layer 7 protocols: HTTP,RTP, RTCP, RTSP, SIP, POP3, IMAP, SMTP, etc is a plus.
- Understanding and familiarity with Diameter (Gx, Gy, etc extensions) and Radius protocols is a plus.
- Familiarity with firewall devices is desirable.
- Strong UNIX knowledge including network configuration troubleshooting, and system / network administration skills.
- Demonstrated excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to pick up new technologies easily and quickly.
- Familiar with software and/or hardware test methodology.
- Experience with network troubleshooting/management and protocol analysis tools is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office Tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Office environment, daily computer use, some lifting required (50lbs 2U rack- mount switch).
