Testing framework software developer Games sector - 12 months fixed term £30 to £40K - Leicestershire. You will be involved in defining the scope of test automation across the studio, which will in part entail designing, implementing and driving the implementation of a testing framework within the core code in parallel with the game development team. This framework will be used for metrics collection and driving game automation. This role will also include the production of data mining and reporting tools to help make sense of the metrics and game telemetry data. You will build relationships with both the game development and manual testing teams, using your findings to help them drive up product quality by guiding the game design, game software design and testing.
Key Accountabilities
Take a lead role in developing the testing framework to enable data gathering and to drive test automation. Partner with the development team to promote best development practice to facilitate an integrated testing solution.
Maintain a test focused approach whilst being embedded within the development team.
Identify and implement methods and processes for integrating technology and effective testing methodologies across projects.
Maintain test framework and automation suite within engine and game code to ensure reliability and accuracy.
Support test reporting effort by working with the Development and Test Leads to identify and build tools to extract pertinent data to aid in the management of the project and to help shape the game design.
Evaluate and clearly represent scope and costs of proposed work, schedule resultant priority plan and drive completion.
Key Success Criteria
Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive, embedded testing framework to support automation and data collection.
Maintain area of expertise including risk assessment, mitigation and solutions for issues. Maintain and constantly improve on consultation and test approach, implementing test strategies designed to increase efficiency by capturing issues early in the development phase. Design or improve tools for analysis, which result in more bugs, higher-quality bugs, or deeper test coverage. Developed / investigated or used reliable, maintainable, and effective test automation that was easily understood and applied to a feature area, increasing productivity and more thorough code coverage. Applied strong knowledge of the software development process architecture, which resulted in earlier discovery of bugs and higher-quality builds. Build and implement a test strategy that delivers high value throughout the game development lifecycle.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential Experience
Demonstrated knowledge of games software development processes and an interest in testing Proven track record in identifying the need for and implementing process improvement.Good understanding of testing principles, approaches and techniques
Understanding utilisation of data mining techniques and reporting best practice.
Preferable experience of working in a distributed team with remote management.
Knowledge of code build systems.
Preferable knowledge of SQL.
Ability to read, design and write C/C++ and C# coding solutions.
Able to write test plans, test specifications and test cases.
Good bug analysis skills resulting in timely decision making.
Familiar with Game engine structure and appropriate technologies
Excellent office software skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio etc.
