Position Description

As a member of the Business Alliance Management Office ("BAMO"), the individual will join a small team that focuses on ensuring a smooth implementation of the Japan JV between Morgan Stanley Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (MSMS) and Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities (MUMSS). Critical responsibilities of the group are to coordinate both externally with MUFG and MUMSS, and internally with MS and MSMS senior management and business professionals, to promote business initiatives across divisions and address JV issues.

As a dual-hatted member of the Alliance Management and Monitoring Office ("AMMO"), the individual will focus on initiatives and issues from the perspective of Morgan Stanley as a shareholder of MUMSS and a partner in the Global Alliance with MUFG, including its family of group companies. Responsibilities will include analysis of JV financial and business performance, assessment of governance and risk management processes, and close coordination with Firm Strategy and Execution in New York. It may also include coordination, both internal and external, on specific global initiatives.

As a member of the BAMO / AMMO group, you will report directly to the head of the group and work closely with members of the Japan Management Committee

Team members are responsible on a day-to-day basis for:

• Financial analysis of JV business performance, both top and bottom line, in an effort to target synergies between JV entities that will enhance the profitability of both institutions
• Work with MSMS business professionals to identify and execute collaborative business and product opportunities with MUMSS, BTMU and other MUFG group companies
• Preparation of analysis and internal presentations to MS and MSMS Senior Management on JV business performance and progress
• Regular attendance of Alliance Office meetings between JV and Shareholding entities for the purpose of addressing JV issues, negotiating solutions or promoting business
• Preparation and negotiation of meeting materials for regular meetings between MS/MSMS and MUFG/MUMSS Senior Management and business heads
• Internal coordination with MSMS infrastructure groups to ensure risk management processes, compliance procedures and adequate expense initiatives are in place
• Internal and external coordination on specific global initiatives, as the case may be

Skills Required

• 3-5 years experience at an Investment Bank, front-office preferable, with an understanding of the markets business model and cross-divisional relationships
• Strong work ethic, with excellent qualitative and communication skills
• Outstanding organizational and time-management skills, the ability to work quickly while under pressure is essential
• Strong analytical skills, creativity, resourcefulness and problem-solving initiative are critical
• Ability to prepare presentations in English and Japanese
• Fluency in English and Japanese, both verbal and written business language
• Good sense of humor
