Tooling Engineer Job in Pewaukee 53072, Wisconsin US
Plan and execute product cost reduction and new product development projects utilizing knowledge of injection molded rubber tooling design, and rubber molding process technology. Responsible for the development of safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing processes and procedures as well as the introduction of new technologies driving improvements into the rubber molding process. Work closely with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to incorporate the Voice of the Business in tooling designs.
Responsibilities Include:
- Utilize 3D CAD software to complete intricate and complex designs, including drawings and specifications of molds, dies, fixtures, gages and other tooling or machine parts.
- Obtain tooling quotes from suppliers, hold tooling design reviews, release and order tooling for trial and pilot runs.
- Establish the technical manufacturing processes, methods, and work center layouts, etc., in support of the release and implementation of new products or product modifications into production.
- Support the justification of new tooling, machines and equipment, and the installation of this equipment to achieve efficient manufacturing operation at product launch.
- Develop appropriate routings, procedures, and manufacturing instructions for the new products.
- Develop efficient and understandable work methods, and incorporate ideas for improvements from current manufacturing issues. Ensure work practices for the new products address all identified ergonomic, environmental and safety hazards.
- Design concept and develop application requirements for tooling and fixtures to be utilized in manufacturing molded rubber products. Coordinate and approve all tooling implementation to assure compliance to product specifications.
- Review and evaluate new and changed parts and products for manufacturability. Develop part cost and labor estimates and, if required, participate in design review and evaluation.
- Coordinate the above activities with appropriate manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, and production control personnel in a timely and professional manner, communicated clearly with concise and factual data.
- Plan and conduct the pilot production run for the new products developed during the engineering program. Work closely with Production Manufacturing Engineering to support product launch.
- Keep informed of new technology, equipment, or processes that have application to molded rubber products. Apply new technologies to new product development projects where appropriate.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in engineering or related field. 5+ years of progressive experience injection molded rubber tooling design, and molding
- Experience with injection molded rubber process development required
- Lean manufacturing, Statistical Process Control (SPC) and six sigma tools preferred
- Above average computer skills to enable incumbent to utilize database, spreadsheet, word processing programs, and Computer Aided Drafting (SolidWorks) programs
- Experience on SolidWorks 2009/10
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- Inventor and Moldflow analysis desired
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; project management skills.
- Good verbal and written communications skills
