Lead CNC Setter/Operator

Our client is an established privately-owned business which designs, builds and manufactures water softeners for commercial and residential applications. Based in Harlow, the company is in a period of ongoing investment into business growth through acquisition in order to compete on a European basis.

They are now looking to recruit a Tooling Engineer on a permanent basis to supervise the CNC Machine Shop. This role will require good people management skills and technical expertise in order to align resources to deliver to customers on a right first time basis. Youll work with the Directors to ensure all CNC Machine Shop process developments and investments are effectively implemented. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful company in a key role.

Duties:

Manage a Toolroom comprising a mix of CNC lathes/mills

Hands-on machine tool set up, CNC programming and maintenance

Produce drawings for new tools to support projects

Supervise, train and motivate a small team

Responsible for Health and Safety policy

Responsible for Quality standards

Ensure production levels are maintained by resource management in event of breakdown or absence etc.

Work closely with management on projects to set timescales

Liaise with toolroom suppliers

Recommend improvements to procedures to increase efficiency this will include suggesting machinery purchases, software, internal processes etc.

Keep records of technical documentation

Skills and experience required:

Previous experience of CNC machine milling/lathe components e.g. as a Toolmaker

Hands-on leadership skills

Proven ability to improve processes and use initiative to deliver best results to customer, taking company objectives into account i.e. commercially aware

Good problem solving skills

IT literacy in any 3D CAD/CAM package

Experience in some or all of the following machines would be beneficial Gildermeister, Fanuc, Siemens, Bridgeport, Heidenheim, Colchester

Experience of purchasing/working to budgets would be advantageous

Excellent communication skills

Ability to prioritise under pressure

Working hours are 8am-5pm with 1 hour for lunch. The work environment is enviable with a rest area with TV, snooker, fussball, billiards etc, pizza oven and on Friday the management pays for beers!
