Back-Roads Touring is a unique small group touring concept that offers memorable and flexible tours through the UK Europe. The Back-Roads Touring philosophy is to take guests behind the tourist facade, down the back-roads through country lanes and cobbled streets to discover local charms and history. The tours are designed to offer more flexibility and free time, where guests can relax and absorb their local surroundings, the local culture, delicious cuisine, and ancient architecture; travel is not about seeing new destinations, it is about experiencing them.
About the Opportunity
Back-Roads are looking for educated, resourceful, and people-orientated individuals to join their welcoming team of professional Guides and Driver Guides.
Their most successful and popular guides come from a colourful spectrum of backgrounds, including professors, photographers, botanists, zoologists, ex-service officers, hoteliers, accountants, engineers and historians. However, all guides have two things in common - excellent communication skills and a sense of adventure.
Comprehensive training will be provided, but candidates will ideally possess a good regional knowledge of the UK and/or Europe. An interest and enthusiasm for local history and culture is essential. Successful candidates will go on a training tour with existing guides to help prepare for the challenges of leading a group.
Successful applicants are retained seasonally (April - October) on a contractual, self employed basis as a Driver/Guide. Guides must therefore be willing and able to drive one of the companies Mercedes mini-coaches, which requires a PCV class D1 driving licence. This licence may be obtained through an external driving school or a Back-Roads driving course (successful candidates will have to fund this course). For some of our mainland Europe tours driving is not required.
Guides are paid a competitive daily rate and have little expenses when on the tour (breakfast, dinner and hotel accommodation are provided). This is a great opportunity to travel to some of the most interesting and beautiful places in the UK Europe - and get paid for it!
