Department Overview
The IRD Middle Office and Trader Assistants supports the NY IR Swaps, Options, Exotic Options and Inflation Desks providing a central point of contact for various areas within the firm including, but not limited to front office, back office, and finance.
Main Function
The Trader Assistant role is a Middle Office function, primarily designed to create a liaison between the traders and the middle or back office as well as the Firm’s internal finance, administration, and operations groups in New York, London, and other principal locations. The Trader Assistant is one of several key contacts for operations for any trade issues and performs trade booking, trade reconciliation and key risk/ PL reconciliations.
Main Duties
Senior Trader Assistants perform some or all of the following tasks:
- Support up to 5 traders in a senior capacity
- Serve as a senior liaison between the desk and other areas within ops and the bank
- Trade entry and trade validation back to independent sources for more structured products
- Validates broker and direct trades and confirms risk and PL tie out on T0 working directly with the trading desk
- Reconcile T0 risk and PL
- Resolving issues and queries making corrections to trades, amends and validating PV and risk changes
- Ensure reporting is valid and at EOD assist traders to tie out their positions and sign off their risk
- Initiate any necessary improvements to processes and ensure new tasks and products are escalated to management for review and approval
- Any IT enhancements for the trading desk are assisted by the senior TA
- Participate in user acceptance testing on technology enhancement to Firm proprietary and vendor distributed applications (order management systems, trade capture and enrichment)
- Senior TA is viewed as the go to person on the desk with a view to take on additional responsibilities from the Manager of the team
- Work with Trade Support and various operation groups to ensure proper settlement and trade resolution of trade issues
