Trading Assistant recruitment

Background

Today, capital markets are in the midst of revolutionary change. The challenges of investing and trading have never been more intellectually interesting and exciting. Market volatilities flirt with historic highs. New technologies continue to increase the speed and transparency of price information and market news, making markets more efficient and more highly competitive at the same time. Automated Trading has opened huge new opportunities as computers assimilate data and make trading decisions at lightning speed.

Job Description

We are looking for several new Trading Assistants with exceptional academic backgrounds to join us in San Francisco to meet these challenges. Cutler Group is a nationally known equity option market maker and proprietary trading firm with memberships on major US equity and options exchanges.

At Cutler, you’ll work with a variety of Asset classes and Traders, with the ultimate goal of trading as a Market Maker in options or related assets.  You will work on different projects that support our Trading team, working directly with a Trader and receiving feedback throughout the trading day on trading decisions and theory. You will take classes after market hours to enhance your knowledge of trading, covering such topics as: Options Theory, Financial markets, Game Theory, Stock Research and Analysis.

The progress of Trading Assistants will be evaluated in terms of mathematical aptitude, motivation, the ability to absorb new concepts, and the ability to work with others in a team atmosphere. TAs demonstrating success in both trading and the classroom will move on to frontline trading positions.

Qualifications

Experience is not necessary, but an exceptional academic record, strong mathematical aptitude, high motivation and a competitive spirit definitely are. Also necessary are an interest in the financial markets and the desire to work in a meritocratic environment. Academic courses in markets are not necessary.

A recent (2008-2012) Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Economics or Finance is the academic background of almost all our new traders.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who are currently West Coast based.
