Trainee Sugar Trader – Mandarin Speaker, Asia Market recruitment
We are looking for a commercially astute Mandarin speaker to embark on a challenging career as a Trainee Sugar Trader. This role will ultimately be based in our Singapore office - the Asia trading hub. During the initial 6 month training period the successful candidate will undertake intensive training with the Global Trading Team based at the Head Office in London.
Learning all aspects of the role you will carry out a wide variety of tasks to enhance your learning from our expert Traders. This is a rare opportunity to work in an established commodities trading house with immediate exposure to the trading in global markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the trading of raw, refined and white sugar throughout the global markets.
- Study to complete the professional commodities qualification.
- Monitor supply and demand developments, movements and regional sugar policies.
- Shadow the traders and assist by providing freight and trade metrics, co-ordinate meetings and prepare presentations as required.
- Monitor relevant material and maintain current market knowledge of trends and market conditions in order to review financial positions.
- Research the soft commodity markets and provide analysis to traders.
- Support in the negotiation of contracts to agree prices, quality, delivery and specifications.
- Support the Senior Traders in building commercial relationships with customers and government entities, and managing a large portfolio of complex and diverse customers.
- Ensure timely execution of contracts and delivery of shipments to customers, by investigating and resolving logistics issues.
- Control costs by evaluating freights, bookings and establish efficient and reliable route of shipment.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Complete fluency in business English and Mandarin.
- Two to three years of commercial experience in a merchant, trading or related role.
- Minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant subject.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills.
- Self-confidence, with the ability to voice opinions constructively.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills; a capable oral and written communicator who effectively builds relationships with others.
- Entrepreneurial spirit; generates ideas for business improvements and is able to implement them.
- Determined and resilient with a desire to make a long term contribution to EDF Man’s business.
- A strong interest in the agricultural commodities industry.
- Committed team player who is willing to be flexible and assist with a whole range of tasks to support your colleagues.
- Previous experience or cultural awareness of the Asia marketplace.
- Proficient IT skills are crucial, particularly Excel for sending out and collating information.
- Willingness to travel at short notice to any destination worldwide as required by the business.
