Transportation Planner I Job in Arlington 76005, Texas US
Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Transportation Planner to provide assistance in preparing and analyzing various transportation planning activities including the preparation of travel forecasts, collection and analysis of transportation performance and travel behavior data, and development of appropriate alternatives. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting with development of computer-based travel demand forecasts
- Assisting in the interpretation and analysis of travel demand forecast results
- Performing computer coding of roadway and transit networks for use in travel demand modeling
- Conducting research and analysis regarding topics such as traffic flow, roadway/transit capacity, environmental justice, and cost-benefit ratios
- Preparing and analyzing maps utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Assisting in the evaluation and recommendation of alternatives
- Drafting presentations
- Assisting manager with work scope development and oversight on consultant projects
- Providing customer service to partners and stakeholders
- Monitoring federal and state rulemaking and legislation
Required Skills:
- Theoretical or working knowledge of travel demand forecasting process
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to operate Windows-based computer programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods such as engineering, planning, or mathematics
- One year of related experience or less
Salary
Minimum of $39,324.00 annually
