Need:
PARSONS is hiring a Transportation / Environmental Planner to support our Road/Highway group in Washington, DC.

Position Overview:
The successful candidate will serve as a team member on transportation planning and environmental impact statement projects. Duties may include: data collection; technical analysis and documentation, management of budget and schedule, and client communication.

The specific responsibilities are as follows:
Performs various assignments requiring conventional planning expertise, but typically include complexities such as conflicting planning requirements and/or difficult coordination requirements. Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data on transportation, economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use.

Confers with local authorities, civic leaders, social scientists, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and community uses.

Develops recommendations based on governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, housing, and transportation to control and guide community development and renewal.

Prepares, coordinates, and facilitates public involvement and consensus-building meetings and workshops.

Prepares, reviews and evaluates transportation studies, environmental impact reports and other technical documents.

May coordinate the work of technicians and/or lower-level planners and engineers.

Specific responsibilities will vary according to individual’s skills and desires.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

 Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/Environmental Planning or Civil Engineering, Master’s degree preferred and 5 - 8 years of related work experience in transportation/environmental planning.

• American Institute of Certified Planners Certification and or registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred at this level.

• Knowledge of federal and state transportation planning guidelines, including US DOT Technical Advisories and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Experience with the District of Columbia and Virginia Departments of Transportation is highly desirable.

• Strong writing and verbal skills required. Proficiency in utilizing PC and various software packages typically used in transportation /environmental planning assignments is required.

Skills/Competencies:
Willingness, desire and enthusiasm to work in a team setting that emphasizes teamwork, and support as well as leadership skills are essential skills. Knowledge of transportation /environmental planning concepts, practices and procedures and NEPA process is required. Desire and ability to manage different projects, tasks, and work with other staffers simultaneously is strongly desired. This position also requires excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate should be resourceful in developing and implementing innovative and creative solutions to technical, budgeting, and management tasks. Willing to create own solutions to challenges to ensure work is completed by the project team.
