Traumatic Brain Injury Clinical Educator (206998) Job in Rockville, Maryland US
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Traumatic Brain Injury Clinical Educator to support the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), located in Rockville, Maryland. HJF provides administrative and management support to DVBIC.
DVBIC is multi-site medical care, clinical research and education center. It is a unique collaboration of the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system, and civilian partners. The mission of DVBIC is to serve active duty military, their dependents and veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) through state-of-the-art medical care, innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs. DVBIC is primarily responsible for support of clinical operations in the DVBIC network which includes 10 military treatment facilities, 5 veteran hospitals and 2 community re- entry civilian programs. In addition, the office has visibility and contributes to the expertise of DoD level related clinical activity related to traumatic brain injury.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates and develops traumatic brain injury educational initiatives aimed at teaching the health care team.
2. Educates providers on the clinical care standards of practice for traumatic brain injury.
3. Works collaboratively with the Office of Clinical Initiatives in providing educational opportunities for the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of military and veterans with TBI.
4. Works collaboratively with the Office of Telemedicine in the use of technology in providing professional and community education.
5. Provides consultation to military and veterans sites related to TBI educational issues.
6. Integrates principles of adult learning into educational products designed to teach clinicians about TBI.
7. Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
8. Participates in on-site orientation of new regional education coordinators
9. Engages in on-going training of education coordinators
10. Monitors contracts as needed
11. Participates in the development of TBI education materials for health care providers, patients, families and the community using print, web, on-line, Vtel etc.
12. Serves as Subject Matter Expert on Traumatic Brain Injury.
13. Collaborates with the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Directorates and component Centers.
14. Completes special projects as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the military/veterans health care delivery system. Knowledge and experience in the care of traumatic brain injury. Experience in developing and presenting healthcare topics. Ability to develop and utilize power point for presentations; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Masters level preparation as a Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant or strong clinical experience with a Master's in Education.
Minimum Experience: 2-4 years experience in providing direct patient care and education on health topics. Prefer clinical experience with traumatic brain injured patients.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of sitting, standing, carrying light items; may encounter patients who are confused, agitated or abusive.
Required Licenses, Certifications or Registration: Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant; Certified in basic cardiac life support.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: May supervise support staff within the Office of Education.
Work Environment: Office and Clinical.
Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check.
