Business Risk
Business Risk ("BR") is a Service Area within AERS. It is comprised of professionals that possess competency and experience in the areas of risk management, business and operational processes, internal auditing, financial reporting and other internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Business risk professionals use these skills to assess, analyze, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of governance, financial and operational control processes, offer recommendations to improve operations, and assist clients with enterprise risk and compliance activities.
Finance Operations Risk Transformation (FORT): FORT is a market offering within BR. Marketplace developments in recent years have focused an intense spotlight on the finance, compliance, and operations functions and the areas within an organization that they influence. Finance Operations Risk Transformation (FORT) services focus on assessing, testing, and assisting organizations in improving processes and controls, transforming the way clients effectively address business, technology, and financial statement risk. Our services help organizations improve business performance by increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of functions closely linked to the financial statements and the related internal controls.
Position can be based out of Los Angeles, Chicago or New York.
Our Treasury Commodity Risk Management practice is seeking a manager to join our team of experienced and self-driven professionals serving the Commodity Industry (i.e. experience in Agriculture, Dairy, Energy and Other related commodity areas. The qualified candidate(s) should be proficient in most of the following subject matter areas:
- Soft Commodity Markets
- Agriculture (Coffee, Sugar, Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, Oats, DDG, etc.
- Dairy (Milk, Butter, Cheese, Whey, etc.)
- Energy (Power, Natural Gas, Crude Oil, Coal, Gasoline, etc.)
- Metals (Base and Precious)
- Chemicals (Ethylene, Propylene, Resins, Plastics)
- Other Commodities (Paper, Cardboard, Cotton)
- Production and distribution operations (procurement/purchasing, logistics, settlements, inventory management, risk management services)
- Risk analysis and management concepts and practices
- Internal controls related to the trade life cycle (including front, middle, and back office functions)
- Regulatory issues affecting physical and financial commodity markets
- Fundamental analysis of physical commodity markets
Manager Responsibilities:
Specific roles of this position include assisting senior management with executing and delivering professional advisory services, performing market/client research, refining and executing new Firm service offerings. The manager will have exposure to multiple clients across a range of industry segments including Power Utility, Oil Gas, Consumer Products Industrial Processing, Manufacturing, Entertainment and Health Care. Extensive domestic and international travel to/from and work at client locations will be required. As part of the national Enterprise Risk Services team, this position will allow an individual to work with various commodity vendor and custom system applications, gain experience with leading industry practices related to the transaction life cycle in commodity markets (including front, middle, and/or back office functions), serve a variety of client companies engaged in the commodity markets, and have the opportunity to grow within the Firm
Manager Requirements:
Technical Background
- Experience with Corporate and/or Business unit commodity procurement, trading, operations, and/or risk management functions
Business Background
- 5-10 plus years of prior work experience in either industry and/or professional services firm (depending on educational background) with transaction life cycle in physical and financial commodity markets including front, middle, and/or back office functions.
- Internal controls related to the transaction life cycle in physical and financial commodity markets.
- Understanding of commodity markets, operations, products and instruments
- Risk analysis or management experience
- Familiarity with regulatory issues affecting wholesale and retail commodity markets and/or participants
Specific Skill Sets
- Strong analytical and client skills, as well as experience working in a team on various projects
- Self driven and ability to understand objectives and produce results with little supervision
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access (Project and Visio a plus)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative oriented field (i.e. engineering, finance, economics, or science) plus 5-10 years experience
- Or Bachelor's degree (as above) plus MBA and/or MS with 5-10 years experience
- CPA, CIA®, CISA, or CISSP certification desired
