Treasury Hedge Accountant recruitment

The successful Treasury Hedge Accountant will ideally offer prior Hedge accounting experience and demonstrate and understanding of accounting for the volatility of the banking book. Other successful Hedge Accountants without prior experience have offered experience in product control, particularly FX and Interest Rates. Offering knowledge of mark to market derivative transactions, PnL reporting on derivatives and even some risk management experience would also be viewed as a worthwhile skill set.

KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB

•  Ensure that banking transactions are accounted in the optimal way under IFRS to minimise income statement and equity volatility.

•  Role requires an in-depth knowledge of banking products and impact on banking volatility.

•  Responsible for the identification, documentation and testing of bespoke `micro' hedge accounting packages and also for the management of the `macro' cash flow and the macro fair value models.

•  The Treasury Hedge Accountant plays a key role in developing existing processes and control environment and in assisting in the smooth integration of the hedge accounting teams of the groups legacy businesses.

•  Production of MI and analytics to assess various hedging relationships

ACCOUNTABILITIES

•  Compile daily IFRS profit and loss account.

•  Analysis of new trades to determine appropriate accounting treatment under IAS39.

•  Identification, designation and documentation of micro hedge accounting relationships.

•  Retrospective and prospective testing of hedge accounting relationships to ensure compliance with IAS39.

•  Investigation into hedge ineffectiveness on new and existing trades.

•  Continual assessment of the control environment, involving the design and implementation of control reports where applicable.

•  Continual improvement of existing IT processes to enhance the efficiency of the team.

Technical Skills/Experience

•  Qualified accountant or relative experience in a similar role (Interest rate environment)

•  Good knowledge of banking products and the accounting of financial instruments

•  Good understanding of IAS 39, especially hedge accounting.

•  Intermediate/Advanced Excel

•  An aptitude and willingness to learn other IT processes
