Local Candidates May Be Preferred. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assists members of the crews in the construction or maintenance of transmission lines, substations, fiber optic, and communication systems. Drives and/or operates automotive and special substation and line equipment in support of construction or maintenance work. Performs work duties of a groundman (approximately 40 percent of the time) when not performing work of a truck operator. Typical duties include but are not limited to the following: - Pick-up and delivery of materials to right of ways or other locations - Assisting in the assembly and framing of line structures - Installing and maintaining environmental controls at work sites - Other support as necessary to support line crews and Electrician crews Responsibility to observe all safety regulations, to read and understand the PSO Safety Manual, to take part in safety meetings, tail gate meetings, and all safety-related programs. Protects fellow employees and the public from hazardous conditions under his /her control. Must be thoroughly familiar with approved safety working practices and capable of performing duties in a safe and efficient manner. MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY FACTORS: Employee is subject to call out in response to system needs and emergencies 24 hours a day. Must have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) Certificate and have experience as a Truck Operator. Must be able to perform other work that might be required of a Groundman in a substation or transmission line crew. Must have and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License and acquire and maintain required certifications necessary for the operation of various special transmission system line construction equipment (e.g. cranes, aerial lifts, heavy equipment.) Must meet TVA's physical/medical requirements for Truck Operator and those associated with various equipment certifications/licenses required of this classification. Should be able to work for prolonged periods of time under inclement weather conditions during storm or emerging restorations periods. Employee must be alert to watch and anticipate the needs of his/her supervisor and to operate capably all equipment of the line crew. Work is performed in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.
