UBS Product Control Structured Credit / Structured Finance recruitment

The Product Control function is aligned to the Investment Bank’s business areas and products, working hand-in-hand with the front office teams to provide product, valuation and accounting control as well as value-added management information and decision support across the Investment Bank. The Product Control function helps the business to understand the financial structure of strategies and products, and to use risk-based profit and loss reporting to greatest effect. Their oversight of trading activity enhances the integrity of the accounts and adds value to the understanding of risk. By working in partnership with business units, the function helps to optimize revenues while ensuring compliance with different accounting regimes.

The controller will operate within the London Product Control team. You will be aligned to the Credit business.

Your job will involve:
• Reviewing the offshore and shared service provider deliverables, and providing the daily PL reporting and analysis to the desk, analysts and senior management
• Liaising with the trading desk, Valuations team, front-office support, Operations and Global Reporting, to discuss and resolve issues concerning bookings, valuations, new business, strategy and other areas, and
• Gaining expert knowledge of the products traded by the business
• Daily and MTD Commentary relating back to opening Risk and Market movements
• Balance sheet review and analysis

You will also be involved in:
• Taking ownership of all facets of the PL and balance sheet issues surrounding the trading book, and
• The control and review of trading data in-flow to the PL production tool and discussion of this data with the trading desk and SPG

You will have an opportunity to interact with a variety of people across the bank including:
• Front office traders, trade assistants and business managers
• Operations
• A variety of other finance professionals – e.g. financial reporting, regulatory reporting, accounting policy experts

In summary, this is a challenging role with exposure to a huge variety of products and stakeholders within the Investment Bank. You will deal with products including:

• Vanilla Corporate Bonds
• Credit Default Swaps
• Asset backed securities
• Interest rate products including OTC Derivatives for hedging purposes
• FX products for hedging purposes

You will develop a “front to back” understanding of how a trading business functions, how it is monitored and controlled, and how this performance ultimately translates into the reported financials. The role also offers excellent potential for development and career progression within Product Control, finance or the wider investment bank.

• A strong educational background, with a good degree (or equivalent)
• Qualified Accountant / Part Qualified (ACA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Knowledge of IFRS financial statements for the credit business would be useful, but not essential
• Clear verbal and written communication
• Good prioritisation and organisational skills, and the ability to work well under pressure
• Good accounting knowledge, with experience within the credit asset class   • Good Microsoft skills (Excel and some exposure to building basic macros would be advantageous)
