GENERAL SUMMARY:
Laureate, Inc. is currently looking to add a qualified User Interface Developer to be an integral part of a team of software developers. Our team delivers high-quality, scalable, hosted, student-facing learning applications to scholars around the world. The team members are expert Java developers who create high-quality business solutions for web and mobile platforms. Laureate works within an Agile/Scrum environment, working collaboratively with product managers, user experience and customer application experts to design and develop industry-leading software functionality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
' Designs, codes, tests, implements and maintains high-quality user interfaces for proprietary business applications
' Actively participates as a Scrum team member in all phases of the Scrum process (story, development, estimation, burndowns, continuous integration and retrospectives).
' Collaborates with UI/UX Designers to develop actionable functional and technical specifications
' Researches and recommends new development techniques and technologies
' Uses the latest technologies, tools, and techniques (GWT, REST, J2EE, XML, Agile/Test Driven Development, etc.).
' Pairs with other developers to set standards and define best practices for coding and design as well as perform design and code reviews.
' Work with a variety of other developers in a fast-paced pair programming environment.
' Creates and executes jUnit tests based on system and functional requirements.
' Works with management, release team members, and software development team members in identifying integration approaches and addressing data concerns.
' Stays current on targeted platform functionality and enhancements.
' Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university in a related field
' 3+ years of User Interface design and development experience in multiplatform environments.
' 3+ years of experience utilizing modern coding tools and techniques, such as GWT, Java Script, REST, JSON, XML, XMPP, BOSH, CSS, SOAP
' Experience with modern and emerging browser standards, including HTML5, is required
' Experience with continuous integration tools, version control tools and collaboration platforms such as GIT, Jenkins Mingle
' Working knowledge of modern interfaces and their visual metaphors ' including Win7, Win8, Windows Mobile, Apple OSX (Lion and/or Snow Leopard), Apple iOS, Linux (KDE and/or Gnome) and Android (v3 or later)
' Demonstrated proficiency with modern design tools such as Omnigraffle and Visio is a plus
' Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks is a plus
'
' Understanding and experience with Java frameworks (Struts, Hibernate, Spring, JUnit, Velocity) and Web 2.0 technologies and frameworks (AJAX, Prototype, Direct Web Remoting) is preferred
' Excellent problem-solving skills and a self-starting attitude are essential.
' Excellent analytical and design skills are required.
' Experience performing as a team lead is a plus.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
' Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Game Design
