UK Chief Risk Officer recruitment

A high-profile position for UK Chief Risk Officer has arisen at our client; one of the world's leading private, commercial and merchant banks. The role is based in the City of London.

The chief risk officer is in charge of risk oversight of the various activities in the relevant country, with a specific focus on matters concerning multiple business lines, such as country wide regulatory risk issues, local funding issues and local country risk issues. The objective of the risk department is to optimise the risk profile and minimise uncontrolled risks for the local organization through:
-Providing an integrated overview of risk across businesses
-Ensuring a single point of contact towards (local) regulators for risk matters
-Monitoring of risks and regular reporting of same in a clear and concise manner
-Effecting checks to ensure adoption of policies, plans, rules and procedures to decrease the risk of unexpected losses or damage to the bank's financial position and reputation
-Ensure risk policies set globally as well as local regulatory risk requirements are applied and adhered to
-Ensure that systems and procedures are set up to implement and monitor the adherence to the risk policies of the bank and other related procedures and guidelines
-Monitor the overall credit portfolio
-Monitor overall market risk
-Monitor audit reports (external / internal) and monitor follow-up

The successful UK chief risk officer will possess:
-Strong academic attainment in economics, econometrics, business administration, statistics, mathematics or related field
-Substantial experience in risk management (or a similar role) within a banking environment
-A significant proportion of this experience providing expertise in risk management (or a similar role) in an international network environment
-Solid managerial experience, leading a team of professionals within a financial institution
-Meaningful experience working with relevant external third parties, e.g., regulators, rating agencies, investment banks, external auditors, consulting firms
-Thorough knowledge of finance and related fields, i.e., banking and financial instruments; credit and market risk; accounting rules and practices; and financial modelling
-Thorough understanding of risk management and performance management methodologies
