What will I do as UK VAT Manager?

You will be the main point of contact on VAT enquiries for the UK business. You will advise our UK companies on VAT issues, manage risk, look for opportunities and drive continuous improvement in VAT compliance matters.

As UK VAT Manager, what skills and qualifications will I need?
- Degree educated or equivalent.
- A recognised Tax or Accountancy qualification.
- Substantial demonstrable experience within Practice, HMRC or a large complex organisation undertaking complex VAT matters.
- Strong project management and influencing skills with the ability to manage and prioritise numerous objectives or projects simultaneously.
- Detailed knowledge of UK VAT System.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong Analytical experience.
- Experience of working in a fast paced changing environment.

As UK VAT Manager, what kind of responsibilities will I have?
- Working with the business to drive forward continuous improvement in processes and procedures.
- Responsibility for maintaining the relationship with HMRC on VAT issues, including responding to queries and assisting with audits.
- Providing VAT input into business projects such as changes to IT systems, the sale of assets, and general changes to ways of working.
- Advising the business on the correct VAT treatment of transactions including promotions and property transactions.
- Responsible for reviewing the returns and submitting the figures to HMRC, making any necessary adjustments.
- Ensuring that UK companies comply with VAT tax statutory requirements by coordinating regular checks and identifying appropriate solutions.
- Required to draft the VAT, intrastat and ESL returns.
- Communication with Treasury and other bodies/centres to ensure VAT payments made on time.
- Updating the business on relevant VAT issues as appropriate.
- Carrying out VAT training and education programmes as appropriate.
- Advising the business on the correct VAT treatment of transactions including promotions and property transactions.
- Initiating and implementing projects to reduce VAT loss and/or improve cash flow across the UK group.
