Performs a variety of eye care duties to assist the eye care providers in the examination treatment of eye disorders, using knowledge of basic ophthalmic techniques procedures. Makes members/patients their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations needs. Builds rapport cooperative relationship w/ members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs resolve problems. Essential Functions: - Prepares examination treatment rooms for use by eye care providers by cleaning, stocking arranging supplies equipment which requires bending, reaching moderate lifting of up to approximately 45 pounds throughout the day - Reviews appointment schedule to determine patient visits order; greets escorts patients to examination or treatment room in a courteous manner, instructs or assists patient in preparation for scheduled procedures, may assist w/ some minor procedures Yag laser - Performs basic routine vision screenings examinations as directed, recording data on standard format for interpretation by the eye care provider - This may include pertinent medical ocular history, visual acuity, stereopsis, color testing, tonometry lensometry - Performs other technical skills as directed by an eye care provider which may include keratometry, refractometry, automated perimetry ocular imaging - Administers eye medications as ordered by the Ophthalmologists Optometrists, demonstrates knowledge of ocular pharmacy to assigned provider annually, or as requested - Cleans maintains ophthalmic instruments appropriately - Performs clerical reception duties as directed - Performs other duties as assigned - In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors principles defined by the KP Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - HS graduation or equivalent - Completion of a JCAHPO approved course for Ophthalmic Assistants or 6 months of satisfactory full time experience as a nursing/medical assistant under eye care supervision - An equivalent combination of education experience will be considered - Must pass the technical skills assessment for those skills appropriate to the job responsibilities as administered by the Eye Care Department representative prior to hiring On-call position, may fill at higher level. Will have variable schedule depending on location. Floats between departments/facilities/locations. Salary Range: $16.57 - $18.84 Hourly
