Job Title: Field Engineer

Job Location: Midtown, NYC

Job Type: Full-time

Travel: 30% to client sites

The Field Engineer will be responsible to develop and define detailed technical specifications required to implement and integrate the Ubiquity UC SIP product set into client environments.  He/She will be the technical leader of a deployment team for delivery of the final Solution.  The Field Engineer will be responsible for working closely with the Sales Engineer to capture the scope and focus of the Solution which will include both software products and professional services. They will then be responsible to take the Solution and engineer the installation design in concert with architectural assistance from the broader team.  The delivery responsibilities will cover all technical engagement interaction with the clients technical team to ensure a successful delivery.  The Field Engineer will potentially be managing other technical members of the deployment team both local and remote during the delivery phases of the program.

 

Technical activities will include:

·      Linux based system software deployment including related database (MySQL, Postgres….)

·      SIP session setup, management issue resolution

·      Integration efforts will/may include work with other 3rd party UC products not limited to Microsoft, Cisco, Avaya as well as a significant amount of SIP trunk integration

·      Convey knowledge of Ubiquity product set of solutions to client staff and team

·      Validate/ test architectures, design solutions and produce subsequent detailed engineering specifications

·      Implement solutions based on engineering specification

·      Ability to modify design based on obstacles encountered during implementation

·      Resolve complex problems/issues that arise during implementation

 

Non-technical activities will include:

·      Regular engagement with project beneficiaries

·      Ensure project deliverables match client expectation, are delivered on schedule and within budget

·      Regularly informal engagement by the customer to insure client satisfaction

·      Reporting of project status via written completion of reports including regular business metrics to the consulting director and attendance of regular team meetings

 

Leadership mentoring as a Field Engineer will be expected for growth and development of the Field Technicians, new additions to the team and less technical team members.  All Engineers and Technicians will be expected to be Team Players.

 

Additional expectation of Field Engineers is assistance with Business Development via proactive strong client and partner relationships and actively identifying any opportunities outside of the current engagement.

 

Professional Skills Competencies:

·      Understand and perform at the Engineering / Design level with the Ubiquity product set of solutions ie. Turn an architecture into a design

Required Technical Skill Set:

·      High level familiarity with LINUX, ability to function without graphical interface (moderate level Linux systems specialist)

·      Moderate to Strong knowledge of virtualization solutions (VMware, KVM, … )

·      Network skilled with tcpdump, wireshark and the like for troubleshooting network communications and session verification

·      Moderate to Strong level experience and knowledge of databases: MySQL, Postgres

·      Moderate to Strong SIP knowledge mandatory which will include SIP trunk implementation, trouble shooting and support, SIP call flows and SIP spec RFC3261

·      Prior implementation background with Unified communications including Cisco UCM Avaya CM

·      Test plan creation, execution, documentation and trouble resolution

·      Service Management integration – monitoring and management tools integration and APIs

·      SIP interoperability experience

 

Preferred Technical Skill Set:

·      Technical writing and QA – Draft documentation from design specification through test plans and as-built, operations and training content

·      Session Border Controller: Acme, Sonus, Sipura

·      Familiar with Microsoft MOC Lynx

·      Familiar with various 3rd party SIP trunk offerings and capabilities

·      Sendmail/smtp

·      DNS (bind,…..)

·      Configuration of NTP server and clients

·      Apache configuration

·      Basic routing and firewall skills

·      Cisco Jabber or other IM Solutions

 

Nice to Have Technical Skill Set:

·      Familiarity with Security technologies and Media Servers

·      SIP Servlet 1.1 and JSR289

·      SIP App Server (Ubiquity)

·      Java programming or other programming experience

·      HTTP Servlet 2.1

 

Qualifications:

·      Education – BS or BA in technical or engineering discipline or equivalent work experience

·      5-8 years of experience in an IT Infrastructure position
