University Professors of Music/History/English/Art & Design Job in Bath BA2 9BN
Our client, one of the first major “teaching-led” universities in the UK, where the highest possible emphasis is placed on teaching quality, is seeking a number of Professors to cover subjects such as Music, History, English, Art and Design. Professors will play a significant role in leading and developing the research strategy of the University and of their home academic school in particular. They will enhance teaching and learning within the University. They will contribute to the University’s strategy for internationalisation by developing collaborative research projects with overseas institutions and by raising the University’s profile through their scholarly networks and engagements.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- to produce a substantial and distinguished record of activity (publications, performance, creative practice) of world-class standard
- to make a significant contribution of world-class work to the Research Excellence Framework, or to other national quality indicators of high quality learning and teaching
- to provide academic leadership in the advancement of a subject area, to enhance a range of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula
- to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to lead curriculum development at postgraduate-taught level.
- to contribute significantly to the work of relevant research centres and groups and to lead bidding teams to meet income targets
- to generate external funding for their research both within their own discipline and, where appropriate, across disciplines and/or by recruiting significant cohorts of students
- to recruit and supervise doctoral students and to chair doctoral transfers and vivas
- to develop collaborative research projects with overseas institutions
- to play a leading role in international networks of scholars in their field of expertise, acting as external examiner/chief examiner in relation to external theses in other HEIs
- to develop and maintain the University’s profile at a national/international level
- offer support, guidance and mentoring to other staff in the School/University in relevant subject area
- undertake other responsibilities as agreed with the Head of School, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Vice-Chancellor as appropriate

Qualifications/Experience
Essential
- a sustained record of research output at world-class standard and an international reputation in their field
- a record of generating significant external research income
- experience of establishing and leading research teams
Desirable
- experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- experience of curriculum development at postgraduate-taught level
- experience of complying with the regulatory frameworks in HE
Skills and knowledge
Essential
- strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to a wide range of audiences
- knowledge of and active engagement with international scholarly/practitioner networks
Desirable
- knowledge of innovative pedagogical practice at University level
- experience of working in research teams or collaborating to create outputs within practitioner clusters
- excellent organisational and administrative skills
