Performance Objectives consists of: Ensuring operational integrity of FDIC's UNIX systems Installation of UNIX hardware and software, Troubleshooting hardware and software issues, Ongoing server maintenance, Patching Oracle/Sun Solaris servers Measuring the availability of all devices on the enterprise network, where UNIX is the host for all new applications, and is part of the target architecture of the FDIC. Clustering with VERITAS and working in a Multi-zone development shop where there are ever changing priorities Supporting an Oracle Database System in Sun 6800/6900; M5000/M8000 environment Devising solutions to operational problems within Capacity and Operational limitations of installed equipment. May develop and execute contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages. What Does The Future Hold In Store: What you will Learn: The newest Solaris tools for Systems Architecture The newest clustering technologies for systems Architecture The newest virtualization technologies for systems Architecture What you will do: Integrate the Next Generation Unix Systems Architecture to streamline Business units of the enterprise that is being tasked with returning our countrys financial system back to the dominating force in the world Required: Basic Qualifications 1. Is familiar with Unix and its commands/utilities at the user level. Can edit files using more than one editor. Uses at least two shells 2. Can perform standard file processing tasks; find, move, remove, redirection. 3. Familiar with most basic system administration tools and tasks. For example, can cleanly boot and shutdown the system, add and remove user accounts, use backup programs, perform fsck and maintain system database files (groups, hosts, aliases, etc.) 4. Provision new servers both physical and virtual. 5. Can troubleshoot performance issues on a Unix server. 6. Fundamental understanding of the patching process. Can independently patch server operating system. This includes applying security patches and kernal patches. 7. Fundamental understanding of the functioning of the Unix operating system: for example understands job control, hard and soft linking, the difference between shell programs and kernel programs. 8. Add new storage devices to the system, and ensure they are correctly configured for the systems use. Create file systems on the new storage devices. 9. Very comfortable with most aspects of the Unix operating system: paging/swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device driver fundamentals, file system concepts like inode and superblock. 10. Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environments and concepts. Can configure NFS and NIS, use nslookup or research to check information in the DNS. 11. Able to write detailed scripts in at least one, preferably two administrative languages, (shell scripts, Perl, Tk). 12. Install and configure COTs packages on the system. 13. Able to perform at least minimal debugging and modification of shell/perl programs. 14. Able to perform most security audits, and protect the system against intrusion.
