The Opportunity:

This position requires hands on knowledge of operating systems and server technologies; must have a thorough knowledge of industry hardware types and interoperability; basic understanding of application software is necessary. Person in this senior role provides feedback, suggestions and guidance to system administrators located at other sites. Person in position must be proactive in notifying colleagues about patches and updates, testing and sharing results. Must comprehend legacy, current and emerging technologies and possess the ability to articulate the value of technology to the business. The Global UNIX team is a sizable team of over 40 individuals located in six different regions around the globe that support a highly available UNIX environment. We are looking for an addition to the Singapore regional team to provide senior level escalation support for the Operations team and a team member who can lead as an SME expert within the UNIX technologies and services.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the support and maintenance of the global UNIX/Linux environments running Solaris 10 - 2.8 and Redhat Enterprise 4.0.4 and above, expert skill level
Performance of system administration duties across the environment to provide support services for customer.
Maintain UNIX/Linux OS and server infrastructure
Understand messaging design principles and support Sendmail
Design/setup/maintain/monitor servers and backup system
Perform system recoveries.
Purchase and configure new SUN and HP equipment
Maintain server availability for all sites, maintain and periodically test redundant failover.
Escalation point for critical issues
Problem solving, teamwork and customer service skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Performs all technical tasks with minimal supervision
Identify and mitigate security risks; work with management to improve technologies.
Troubleshoot and resolve system issues constantly work to improve existing system designs.
This position liaises closely with Applications, Development, Client services and Infrastructure teams
Participate in the development and implementation of UNIX related projects

Skills / Requirements:

Must have Strong hands-on Linux (RedHat), Solaris administration experience (Sol 10 is preference)
Hands on experience with Perl scripting.
In depth NFS experience in a high through put environment
Knowledge of networking services, TCP, UDP, RPC, NIS and LDAP.
Knowledge of volume management software cluster experience (VxVM, VxFS, ODS, VCS and LVM).
Knowledge of SAN and NAS technologies
IT Security Concepts (Operating System, Network, Firewall, IDS, Compliance Monitoring)

Education

3+ year's comparative industry experience
Degree preferred
