Unix Computer Operator

TEKsystems is in need of a Computer Operator. Candidate needs to have solid experience and strong working knowledge in a production Unix client server and Windows server environment. Day to day responsibilities: Candidate will be responsible for verification that backup processing schedules are complete and accurate, responsible for proper handling of tapes and ensures proper and timely distribution of output, responsible for proper escalation, communication, and management of production system issues, will provide input to the Remedy reporting system in a timely manner, will identify any process improvements that could provide additional efficiencies to the daily operation of the data center, will be expected to understand file and directory structure and can easily navigate through the operating system, monitors and controls the UNIX computer systems and peripheral equipment, ensures uninterrupted data process, operating runs, and batch program jobs, monitors systems consoles for error indicators, error messages, failures, and peripheral malfunctions, competent to work on most phases of computer operations, support incoming calls with difficult customers or calls that requires in-depth knowledge, support daily changes with the remedy Tool, responsible for analyzing issues and responding to Remedy Tickets. Additional Job Info: Qualifications: - 2-4 years of hands-on Unix Administration experience in heterogeneous Production environment. Preferred: UNIX,Linux,AIX, Solaris, Windows NT highly desired - Knowledge of Automated Scheduling (CA-ESP preferred), System Management and Monitoring tools (Remedy,Infosys, BMC-Patrol, Platinum, Orwell, Wily, Fluke, Sitescope, ... ) - Knowledge of Websphere, MQ, PM4Data(MIM), Informix, DB2, Mice Men, filezilla,ftp, MS Outlook, Secure messenger, and Netbackup preferred - C-Shell and K-Shell Scripting skills - Excellent analytical, risk mitigation, negotiation and vendor relationship skills. Adept at problem identification, recovery, escalation, and resolution. - Must be customer oriented. Highly cognizant of the importance of customer service and meeting service level commitments Key Responsibilities: - Responsible for monitoring and operating Midrange platforms - Ensure all Service Level commitments and processing deadlines are met - Ensure system availability for Business Services through contestant proactive system monitoring - Assist in the performance of system administration, including file restores, account management, security management, database re-orgs, DNS updates, etc. at the direction and supervision of System and Database Administrators - Perform System Shutdown and start-up procedures following established Standard Operating Procedures for Infrastructure, Applications and Databases - Perform first level problem diagnostics, identification and resolution; execute Incident Management, escalation and notification procedures - Initiate, execute and monitor the batch processing schedule and resolve and/or coordinate the resolution of batch Incidents - Publish management reports, update and maintain operator activity/turnover logs and Incident logs
