UNIX / LINUX SYSTEM ENGINEER recruitment
The role
In this position you participate in a team of subject matter experts in regards to System Engineering and technical support. You have strong working knowledge of UNIX/Linux Systems and you are able see how the full infrastructure entails together. Besides having strong technical skills, you have excellent communication skills and you have the ability to multitask, prioritize and deliver various projects.
As the UNIX / Linux System Engineer you are involved in multiple projects at any given time, devising new designs that fit into an existing infrastructure, documenting them carefully and advocating them within the organization, and finally seeing them through to implementation. You will be expected to take a pro-active approach to dealing with critical issues, taking appropriate measures to prevent them, and responding quickly when they occur.
Responsibilities
- Design, Implementation, and Maintenance of UNIX and Linux systems;
- Work closely with trading staff to ensure that their performance requirements are met
- Install new exchange connections while enhancing existing connections
- Troubleshoot all exchange related issues either directly with an exchange or broker
- Investigate monitoring tools to improve control and provide transparency on the environment
- Keep up to date on new technologies which have the potential of bringing a competitive advantage, and constantly look for ways to improve any existing hardware/software/network configuration;
- Liaise with vendors to negotiate contracts and maintain vendor relations to ensure that our expectations are met.
Your profile
- 7+ years of IT experience in a similar position;
- Excellent understanding of Unix/Linux server and desktop environments;
- Strong working knowledge of WAN/LAN technologies (e.g. TCP, UDP, multicast, routing protocols etc)
- Understanding of infrastructure operations, software and design, server hardware and management utilities.
- Familiarity with one or more Electronic Trading Applications, FIX protocol and/or other Exchange protocols is a plus;
- Understanding of and the ability to configure redundant mission critical enterprise class systems (100% uptime)
- Proven history of working in a high pressure fast paced work environment (experience on a trading floor is a plus)
- Proven communications skills with both internal and external parties;
- Self starter; highly organized, a motivator and achiever.
