Alexander Black Recruitment is urgently looking for a Unix Linux Sys Admin to join our high profile client moving onto a warm pipeline.
Our client provides data management platforms to top tier investment managers and trading houses. They are well known on the buy and sell side, they have 800 people globally.
As a Unix Linux Sys Admin you will be you will be responsible for the day to day management and operation of all Unix environments consisting of both physical and virtual servers, Operating Systems and software, storage arrays, fabric switches and peripheral devices, both locally and remotely. In this broad role you will also be accountable for the management and support of a small number of IBM AS400 server environments.
We are looking for a strong generalist who has a strong Solaris and Linux background to them. The business is looking at several large changes over the next year which you will play a major part in architecting. The Unix Linux Sys Admin will also:
- Work closely with other users of Unix services and storage, and external services vendors. Sharing responsibility for the day to day management and operation of the Unix server and storage infrastructure to include installation, configuration and support of 130 mixed Unix environments and a small number of IBM AS400 environments.
- Produce project plans, technical reports and other documentation to a high standard and to be able to effectively communicate these to all levels of staff and management.
- Provide personal advice and guidance to users enabling them to make effective and correct use of the Unix environments available to them.
- Participate in project management of IT projects, contributing to analysis, design, development and implementation of appropriate Unix systems.
Candidates Must have:
- 5 years experience in planning, configuring and supporting a heterogeneous enterprise Unix server and storage infrastructure environment.
- 1Enterprise storage SAN solutions configuration and administration.
- Competent in the areas of ILOM management, OS installs/patching, Solaris zones and containers, resource management, LDOM’s, network configuration, ZFS SVM, NIS/LDAP, problem resolution, backups and performance monitoring/management.
- Configuration and administration of VMware based Linux servers running RHEL 5.2 onwards, CentOS, Ubuntu and SUSE.
- Scripting – Perl Shell Bash Python
- Administration of IBM Power Series servers running AIX 5.3 and 6.
- Understanding of IP networking , including addressing, subnets, static routing.
- Configuration and administration of Sun/Oracle servers (V490, M-Series, X-Series and T-Series) running Solaris 8/10/11 in both SPARC and x86 versions.
- Configuration of Solaris High Availability features including MPXIO, IPMP.
- Ability to identify and resolve systems performance and network issues through the use of standard tools, eg sar, vmstat, prstat, ping, netstat, snoop, traceroute.
- HP/3PAR T400 storage arrays and Fibre Channel switch administration
- Ideally Nagios
This is a serious company looking for someone with extensive understanding of the networking and looking to be involved in a number of high profile changes with serious clients.
Candidates from any European country are welcome but must demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience and completely fluent English.
