Up to £120,000 Total Comp – No Finance Experience Needed – C++/C# Developers for a Global Proprietary Trading House recruitment
I represent a global proprietary trading house who are looking to recruit experienced developers into their financial technology division.
Proprietary trading is when a firm trades financial instruments with the firm’s own money as opposed to investors’ money to make a profit for themselves.
They will use a variety of strategies to do this. This firm specialises in statistical arbitrage which is when you to try to derive a profit by the pricing inefficiencies between securities. They use complex quantitative models and excellent financial technology in order to do this.
The financial technologist in a firm like this is responsible for two things:
- How can I manipulate data to make things run more efficiently and therefore faster?
- Models need to go into trading machines. How can I use my knowledge of technology in order to make the quantitative financial models a reality? Models need to be practically possible, not just theoretically.
Grid computing is used extensively.
An opening exists to help develop the trading infrastructure. Some examples:
- Pricing platforms.
- Risk systems.
- Trade position management systems.
- Order routing systems.
- Data manipulation tools.
The work is focused on transferring financial data from one part of the business to the other with applied calculations.
Developers are not expected to be mathematical geniuses; however an interest in mathematics and how financial data is manipulated to become of use to a trader is essential.
The excitement from the perspective of the developer is the option to contribute your own ideas on how to manipulate data more efficiently. In finance, this translates into increased profits. You will be recognised for this, and rewarded so accordingly. Bonuses are related to the PnL of the trading desk which you operate in.
Developers from a variety of backgrounds work in this group. Most thrive on being the one who solved the problem. The environment is relaxed, but challenging. The technology division works in an agile environment. The culture is close-knit, and is some-what similar to small start up technology firms.
In order to be considered for this opportunity, your CV must be able to show most of below:
- 3-5 years at a good technology house. The work you will be doing will be related to interpreting and transferring business data.
- You must have a good understanding of memory management, i.e. be able to track and free memory manually.
- A keen interest in Computer Science, i.e. links to blogs, forum postings.
- A good degree, i.e. a 2:1 Computer Science, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering from a decent university.
