The first video posted on YouTube was a 19-second clip called "Me at the Zoo." Today, more than 48 hours of video are uploaded every minute. The YouTube and Video team helps budding filmmakers and musicians build careers, creates products like Google TV and YouTube Live and runs collaborative projects like Life in a Day and the YouTube Symphony Orchestra. We are leading a change in how we entertain, inform and share with one another, whether through cat videos or footage of a revolution in progress.
The role: User Experience Researcher, YouTube
The User Experience (UX) team follows a simple premise: "Focus on the user and all else will follow." UX Researchers strive to learn what they need and want from our products and services. As a UX Researcher, You conduct independent research, analyze real user behavior and work with User Interface Designers, Products Manager and Engineers to improve our product features and develop new ones. Your work spans across all of Google's products, and you are encouraged to identify new opportunities for user experience improvements. We strive to the connect users to the magic of our products, and your job is to make that connection intuitive and accessible.
With considerable experience, you evaluate all the features contributing to user experience, providing expertise, collaborating internally and occasionally leading projects. You contribute new processes and identify product and use requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct different types of user research studies, including lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections (heuristic evaluations or cognitive walkthroughs).
- Collaborate with product teams to define and prioritize user experience research questions.
- Ensure effective communication of research findings, including synthesizing them into workable design principles.
- Drive product improvements based on research findings.
- Participate in product reviews and strategic research planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
- 4 years relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 years relevant work experience, including knowledge of a wide range of UX research methods and techniques, such as lab-based usability studies, field research, usability inspections, creation of user profiles or personas, participatory design, survey research, experiment design and statistical analysis.
- Experience with mobile devices, user-generated content, web technology and standards, accessibility and universal design, internationalization and localization.
- Excellent analytical skills, especially with regard to observation of user behavior.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; can present findings concisely and effectively.
