AGNC and MTGE commenced operations during 2008 and 2011, respectively, and are each externally managed and advised by subsidiaries of American Capital Mortgage Management, LLC, an affiliate of American Capital, Ltd (American Capital).

AGNC is a mortgage REIT that invests in agency securities for which principal and interest payments are guaranteed by a U.S. Government-sponsored entity or agency. MTGE invests in agency and non-agency mortgage backed securities, mortgages and other mortgage-related assets. The two REITs had combined investment portfolios of $85 billion as of March 31, 2012.

American Capital is a publicly traded private equity firm and global asset manager that originates, underwrites and manages investments in middle market private equity, leveraged finance, real estate and structured products. Founded in 1986, American Capital has $101 billion in assets under management and seven offices in the U.S. and Europe.

Job Description and Qualifications

The Valuation analyst position reports to the Valuation Manager and is responsible for executing the valuation and analysis processes concerning our fixed income, debt and derivatives portfolios. 

Specific responsibilities include:

• Maintain valuation methodologies for mortgage-backed securities, whole loans and other mortgage related investments, as well as debt and derivatives portfolios

• Prepare product specific analysis and reporting for inclusion in management, board and SEC reporting

• Maintain automated solutions for valuation and analysis processes

• Complete special projects that require financial services valuation expertise

The successful candidate will have a high level of Microsoft Excel and Access proficiency, a BS in Finance, Economics or related studies, 2-4 years within the valuation or financial analysis functions of financial services organizations, and a strong understanding of the valuation of capital markets products, particularly mortgage-related assets and derivatives.  Candidates must have strong analytical and communication skills, be proactive and adaptable, and work well within both a small team and across various department lines within the larger organization. The ideal candidate would preferably have VBA/SQL programming skills and hold or be working towards an MBA or CFA.
