The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for Morgan Stanley’s financial records, ensuring that the assets and liabilities of the firm are properly controlled, and providing accurate and timely financial information both to senior management and externally to statutory and regulatory bodies. FCG is split into sub-divisions, each with multiple areas.

Valuation Controller
for our Budapest office
The Valuation Review Group (VRG) is part of the Financial Control Group. VRG are responsible for all balance sheet valuation control issues in Morgan Stanley trading businesses. The specific roles are part of the functionalization group within VRG, which has a broad mandate for mark review and related valuation issues in both Fixed Income (Including Commodities) and Equities - initially mainly for non-derivative products Due to the nature of the role, there is an exposure to a wide variety of products which will provide a valuable insight into both Equities Fixed Income (including Commodities) and the role is therefore an exciting and unique role within an Investment Bank. In addition, the successful candidates will be responsible for both European and US inventory and will have to deal with Controllers from both areas.
Responsibilities:
• Production of the monthly mark review to ensure positions are marked correctly in the firm’s books and records. This covers a broad range of ‘cash’ and listed products across Fixed Income (including Commodities) and Equities
• Gaining a full understanding of the products subject to valuation in the group and the relevant marking methodologies
• Developing and standardising the existing Mark Review processes
• Regular contact with Business Unit Controllers, particularly during the month end mark review process. Liaison with the other FID Equity VRG teams regarding specific valuation issues
• Interaction with the Business Unit during the monthly mark review process
• Preparing reports and documents that clearly explain and summarise the mark review issues for senior finance management and the Business Units
• Project work as required on new systems and functionality enhancements
• Challenging processes and procedures to improve efficiency. A key responsibility will be to identify ‘best practices’ in FID/Equities NY/London and propose how they can be introduced into the other areas. Also the candidate should be able to assess and develop economies of scale and synergies across the groups
• Preparation of reconciliations between the firm’s books and records and the underlying positions at month end.
Skills Required:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are particularly important, as it is important to interact with the Business Unit and Business Unit Controllers and work as part of a team
• English language proficiency
• Good computer skills (advanced Excel)
• Degree (MSc) in the field of finance or economics
• Good understanding of financial and investment products including Bonds, FX, Commodities and vanilla derivatives is a strong advantage.
• 0-3 years relevant experience
• Successful candidates will have drive and the ability to work under pressure and to tight monthly deadlines
• No specific product skills are required, although Financial Services experience may be beneficial
