The Corporate and Investment Bank Group Division is responsible for Deutsche Bank’s capital markets business, comprising the origination, sales and trading of capital markets products including debt, equity, and other securities.
The Global Valuation Group (GVG) is a centralised function within Finance responsible for independent valuation control of all trading assets and liabilities in the Corporate and Investment Bank. GVG consists of Independent price verification (IPV), Methodology, Analytics and Reporting as well as having its own Change the Bank (CTB) function.
The mandate of the GVG Business Analyst position (part of the Analytics Reporting) is to enhance the transparency and accuracy of complex valuations reporting and resolution. This is achieved by depth of analysis as well as process and infrastructure re-engineering.
Responsibilities:
Your role focuses on the reporting of issues and risks that relate to valuation uncertainty specifically Level 3 (L3) items, and ensuring the appropriate escalation priorisation. Core aspects of the role include:
Valuation Risk Analysis
There are bi-weekly meetings where all senior GVG Directors and MDs discuss the progress made on closing the complex valuation issues. You will enable a timely escalation of new issues and delivery oriented reporting. Specific responsibilities will include:
• Presenting an overall view of the valuation risks stemming from our L3 population
• With the help of the GVG Directors, prioritizing material issues, document them, articulate a resolution plan, and track progress
• Constantly enhancing the valuation assessment framework by proposing / gathering new ideas (like factoring regulatory capital, profitability, ratings …)
• Acting as co-point of contact for all L3 queries
• Liaising with other departments to leverage their understanding of the L3 movements
Ownership of the current process and toolset
A database has been recently designed and implemented by this function with the view to store our complex trades’ balances and all relevant attributes necessary for the GVG analysis. You will be expected to have complete ownership of the data updating, maintenance and sourcing required on this front. An Off-shored IT expert is fully resourced for this task but would need to be directed. Responsibilities will include:
• Managing the quarterly data collection process
• Producng required suite of reports within deadlines
• Managing 1 IT resource (Offshored IT resource dedicated to this project)
• Providing support to Risk Partners in providing trade level breakdown and analysis of key L3 items and movements
• Using innovative reporting techniques to focus on new specific problems and actions
• Providing weekly updated metrics on progress and open issues
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
As the process matures and reporting requirements get further defined, you will be expected to make recommendations on how to improve the data collection process and how to integrate the toolset into our strategic infrastructure. Key responsibilities will include:
• Engaging in L 3 related change initiatives (act as a subject matter expert with CTB by assisting with proof of concepts and problem statements
• Highlighting synergies between our group and other department’s toolset
• Producing feasibility studies on new ideas
• Investigating potential opportunities to leverage the wider GVG toolset
You will report into Risk Partners within the GVG Analytics and Reporting space and assist them in the analysis of L3 balances and preparation of effective and detailed L3 packs for the Valuation Oversight forums
Candidate requirements
You will have:
• Prior experience of working in Valuation Control or Product Control (IPV Testing, Reserving Methodologies, IAS39, IFRS7, Balance Sheet Analysis)
• Experience of working in large financial institutions
• Strong understanding of the credit financial products
• Outstanding Excel / Power point skills
• Problem Solving skills
• A good understanding of Financial Products / Valuation risks
• Strong Valuation Analysis Techniques
• The capacity to articulate complex issues at the appropriate level of details for a particular audience
• Familiarity with Database designs (Ideally SQL / ORACLE knowledge)
• Change / Project Management Skills (preferred)
