Position Description:
SunGard Financial Systems provides mission-critical software and IT services to institutions in virtually every segment of the financial services industry. The primary purpose of these systems is to automate the many detailed processes associated with trading, managing investment portfolios and accounting for investment assets. In addition, we also provide professional services that focus on application implementation and integration of these solutions and on custom software development.
Job Overview:

SunGard's EMEA Shared Services Centre is looking for an experienced Vat Accountant to join its EMEA Vat Department. Currently, the Centre services approximately 90 SunGard businesses located in the UK and Continental Europe.

Working within a dedicated VAT team, this role is responsible for ensuring that SunGard's business units and legal entities are compliant with (a) internal and external VAT reporting requirements and (b) VAT returns, EC Sales Lists and payment requirements, in a timely and accurate manner.

The role also involves providing VAT advice to SunGard business units and staff; and contributing to improvements in VAT systems and processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assume responsibility of the VAT affairs for a number of UK and European entities. This involves:

• Preparing and reviewing VAT reconciliations and returns as well as EC Sales lists across the EMEA entities.
• Preparing and booking VAT entries, verifying VAT input and output postings within SUN, investigating and correcting any VAT discrepancies, ensuring timely settlement of VAT.
• Contributing to Shared Service Centre wide process improvements for all VAT related matters including VAT reclaim projects.
• Assisting with vat audits
• Maintaining and developing VAT systems and process improvements
• Provide VAT advice to business units and other SSC staff
• Undertaking ad-hoc duties as required

Person Specification:

Knowledge/Experience:

Essential Experience Required;
• Strong vat compliance background (UK or European)
• Technical accounting ability

Desirable Experience Required;
• Tax/VAT (within Practice or Commerce)
• Software and licensing

Skills:

Essential Skills Required;
• Intermediate Excel Skills (Pivots and V Lookups)
• Good general IT skills including Outlook

Desirable Skills Required;
• Working knowledge of SUNv5
• European languages speaker desirable, but not essential

Qualifications:

• Qualified / Part Qualified Accountant or Qualified by experience (vat environment), or
• VAT / Tax qualifications
