Vice President, Asian Intermediaries Business Development

This position will report to our Senior Vice President of Asia Business Development based in Hong Kong.
 
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
With a growing presence in the Asia Pacific region, we are seeking an individual to join our business development team who will concentrate on proactively expanding Matthews' business relationships with intermediaries in Hong Kong and Singapore. The primary investment vehicle of choice is the Luxembourg-domiciled Matthews Asia Funds that are registered for distribution in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The individual will be responsible for outlining and executing on a business plan to grow Matthews' presence in the IFA, insurance, private banking and consumer banking channels – primarily in Hong Kong, and secondarily in Singapore.  The individual
will be required to:

 
•proactively map and navigate intermediary organizations in order to identify key decision makers, understand decision making processes,
 and articulate an effective sales and servicing plan for each organization;
•develop relationships with key points of contact who directly impact client investments into commingled funds, including advisors, bankers,
 and relationship managers within the intermediary organizations.
•develop and personally execute on a sales and servicing plan for key intermediary organizations, to report regularly and consistently on
 business activity (including through faithful use of the CRM system), and, ultimately, to generate and maintain assets in the Matthews Asia Funds.
•undertake these responsibilities with a strong understanding of Matthews' goal to build a long-term brand as a specialist Asian manager championing
long-term investment solutions for Asian investors.
This position will play an integral role in Matthews' long-term efforts towards building strong brand recognition across key strategic markets in the
Asia Pacific region.  Accordingly, the individual will work closely with Matthews' global business development and marketing colleagues in Hong Kong
and San Francisco, who serve a broad segment of institutional and financial intermediaries, financial advisors, and platform providers.

 
This position will be based in Matthews' Hong Kong office, and require mostly local travel, with occasional travel regionally and to Matthews'
San Francisco office.

 

 

Successful candidates will:

•Demonstrate prior achievements in a sales/relationship management role, with demonstrated relationships
 with IFAs, insurers, private banks, and consumer banks that have been developed through an educational and consultative wholesaling approach.
•Articulate prior individual and team successes in developing, growing, and maintaining business relationships with key intermediary organizations.
 This should include prior experience in mapping and navigating complex organizations and in developing and executing on sales and servicing plans for such organizations.
•Demonstrate the ability to outline and execute on a business plan, which includes setting and measuring against milestones, and ultimately increasing assets
 under management.

•Demonstrate innate networking capabilities--the ability to see and leverage connections found in Matthews' existing client base, and through conferences
 and other industry connections

•Demonstrate conviction for long-term investing and a philosophy regarding how to champion the case for long-term investing within markets such as Hong Kong
