Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced corporate tax professional to work in the Chicago Office of the Morgan Stanley Tax Department. This position is part of the Morgan Stanley Corporate Tax team that has responsibility for providing tax related services to various corporate entities within the Asset Management Division. The position has responsibility for the federal and state tax compliance and provision processes as well as coordinating local support for international tax and federal audits to the parent corporate tax group.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the U.S. tax compliance and reporting activities for a wide range of Asset Management Division entities including institutional investment advisors, broker-dealers, general partners and holding companies. Responsibilities include all aspects of corporate tax compliance, planning and special projects.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns and estimated tax payments.
• Directly manage the preparation of the income tax footnotes for various separate company financial statements as well as recurring tax provision processes, which primarily impact Morgan Stanley's consolidated financial statements.
• Work with Asset Management Controllers and IPTax to develop processes for efficiently gathering necessary information.
• Assist in federal and state local income tax audits and review responses to notices issued by taxing authorities.
• Coordinate the efforts of an outside service provider with respect to the preparation of US filings for various foreign fund entities.
• Supervise day-to-day activity of staff and perform efficient review of their work.
• Participate in various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring evaluations, performance appraisals, promotions evaluations, transfers evaluations, and vacation schedules.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements including technology advancements and coordinate with the MS Tax technology team to develop those enhancements.

Skills Required:
• Possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting. Masters in Taxation preferred.
• Possess a minimum of eight years' public accounting and/or corporate experience including an extensive experience in U.S. tax compliance.
• Have prior experience in supervising positions.
• Certification as a CPA preferred.
• Motivated, team-oriented self-starter who desires a broad range of corporate tax issues and has the ability to work effectively and efficiently in an environment with all levels of personnel, adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Willing to be a hands-on leader as well as a desire to supervise and develop staff.
• Excellent oral and written communications, analytical and organizational skills are required
• Strong PC skills required, knowledge of Corptax a definite plus
