Vice President, Engineering
This is the most senior-level technical position for this metallurgical coal (met coal) company. They provide met coal for the steel industry with operations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The Company is looking for a Vice President of Engineering-Canada to provide leadership, vision, direction, and oversight to various areas of responsibility at its Canadian surface operations. The company also produces thermal coal, industrial coal, anthracite, metallurgical coke and coal bed methane gas.
The Vice President, Engineering-Canada will plan, organize, direct and control the Mining Engineering, Technical (maintenance) Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and continuous improvement efforts. The incumbent will have responsibilities in effective management; acquisitions; planning, geology surveying; organizational staffing plans and growth opportunities. Key duties will include:
· Organize staff and direct the activities of the Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering (possibly), and Maintenance Engineering functions in a manner, which will ensure the effective management and control of these functions in keeping with the primary objectives of the Company.
· Lead and direct the lease acquisition, property acquisition, and right-of-way acquisition efforts to maintain existing operations.
· Ensure adequate services are provided in the areas of Mine Planning (long range short range), Ventilation, Geology and Surveying for all mining operations.
A Bachelors Degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent technical training is required; a Masters degree (MBA or technical) would be a plus. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in mountainous surface coal mining operations, specifically in a technical and management capacity.
The Vice President, Engineering – Canada will report to the President-Canadian Operations. This individual will supervise engineers and project personnel as assigned. Total department size will be approximately 20-25.
