Vice President, Finance
Digital Science is a new business unit of Macmillan Publishers. It builds on the Group’s excellence in science publishing and is designed to exploit emerging commercial opportunities in the uses of digital scientific information. The Digital Science business sits apart from the Group’s existing science publishing activities, focusing less on content and more on technology-driven services. Through its corporate venture capital arm, Digital Science pursues selective acquisitions and provides funding to promising start-ups in the scientific information and research technology space.
Digital Science is looking to recruit a Vice President, Finance, to manage the division’s newly established US operations and support its portfolio companies and their local subsidiaries. You will play a vital role in promoting the organizational development of Digital Science and our portfolio companies in the US, demonstrating your leadership skills.
The role is based in Boston and reports to the Finance Director of Digital Science.
Key tasks include:
- to manage the organizational development of Digital Science’s US operations, and to assume responsibility for financial reporting and the implementation of appropriate financial controls
- where necessary, act as interim CFO for our portfolio companies and support their senior management in all matters related to finance and business administration
Candidate Profile
We are considering candidates with relevant professional experience, and demonstrable leadership qualities. Candidates should hold a finance-related university degree with very strong academic credentials, ideally supplemented by an MBA from a top-tier institution and / or a relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, or equivalent). Furthermore, the ideal candidate demonstrates
- an entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethics and a drive for perfection
- excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- excellent problem solving skills and analytic ability
- very strong quantitative and technical skills
- attention to details and that he / she is a quick learner
