Vice President, Investment Consultant recruitment
Position Overview
Fidelity Investments is the leader in providing recordkeeping services for retirement benefits. We are looking for highly motivated individual to lead a team of investment professionals dedicated to servicing our largest and most complex client relationships. This VP position reports to the Senior Vice President in Investment Consulting and encompasses three distinct purposes. 1.) Ensuring that all of the investment needs of the team's assigned corporate retirement plan clients are met. 2.) Managing the day to day responsibilities of a team of regionalized investment consultants. 3.) The role also includes acting as the segment liaison-representing the Investment Services group to the senior executives of our WI Strategic Market Segment.
Primary Responsibilities
Client Work - Conduct investment reviews with assigned defined contribution (and occasionally defined benefit) r/k clients and any required follow-up. [Typical book of business is the equivalent of 25% or less of "full" IC capacity.] Detailed preparation for covering discussions of capital markets and funds (both non-Fidelity and Fidelity) is required. IC is responsible for all of the logistics associated with the meeting-to include travel, presentations, etc. As the service team's investment expert, the IC's presentation should solidify him/her as an integral part of the Fidelity offering and should foster greater relationships with Treasury/Finance contacts and identify any/all opportunities to present other Fidelity services/products. # of client assignments will vary greatly contingent upon the specific role's emphasis on the other mandates of the job.
Team Management - Responsible for any/all managerial duties attendant to overseeing direct reports. This includes career development, conducting regular one-on-one's, training as needed, compensation and merit reviews, and conducting team meetings as desired. Attendance at direct report investment presentations is also required based on current compliance guidelines.
Segment Liaison Work - In this role, the manager will serve as the investment point of contact to the senior management of the segment, working closely with the head of RM's, sales, and admin/opp's. Regular interaction will serve to keep the segment abreast of all new investment developments and progress on existing investment offerings. Creation of training and development programs can also be a part of this. The role also engenders more frequent interaction with senior FMR and Pyramis personnel. Ad hoc projects for the segments may also play a role.
Product Knowledge/Training - Role involves continuous professional development on both industry and investment (macro/micro) best practices. This would include regular meetings with Fidelity and non-Fidelity portfolio managers; attendance at internal product and service updates (e.g. advice guidance products); occasional attendance at industry conferences/events; development of and oversight for content of quarterly all-hands meeting and specific as directed topical projects.
Compliance - Current environment demands adherence to both internal and state/federal regulatory compliance standards. Attendance at commensurate training is mandatory. This would also include any/all CE requirements required for the appropriate designations and NASD licenses. Oversight of direct reports to ensure all compliance requirements are met, to include: email review, monthly/quarterly trade review. All managers function as registered principals
Administrative/Reporting - Required reports for assigned client books; direct reports' activity and progress; and liaison activities as required
Education and Experience
Minimum 15-20+ years industry experience or equivalent (i.e. corporate Treasury officer with exposure to investment issues of pension and defined contribution plans at the decision making level)
MBA or CFA w/other designations helpful (e.g. CFP, CIMA, CEBS)
Minimum 5-10 years investment consulting experience
Minimum 3-5 years experience in a leadership role
NASD licenses: Series 7, blue sky, Series 24
Skills and Knowledge
Outstanding communication skills both oral and written, especially in a group setting; must be organized and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and work with client imposed deadlines; independent and able to take initiative without explicit direction balanced with the ability to work as a member of the service team; board room/C suite command presence and maturity a must; creative thinking translated into value added presentation skills and content development; intimate and noteworthy knowledge of all products-both Fidelity and non Fidelity (to include commingled pools and separate accounts) and relevant industry trends; understands the internal and external economics of our business across all segment lines ; understands the regulatory environment impacting our business; strong willed enough to influence the action, but perceptive enough to do so in a consultative fashion; proven leadership/managerial skills
