Position Description:
Morgan Stanley seeks a candidate for a role in the Market Risk Department (MRD). MRD provides independent market risk oversight across the Firm's trading and investing activities. The opportunity exists to join the Capital Team within MRD. This team is responsible for market risk regulatory capital for Holding Company and regulated legal entities. The team provides guidance in financial regulatory matters and is responsible for compliance with regulatory capital framework.
Core responsibilities include:
• Provide oversight of Morgan Stanley's market risk regulatory capital and related regulatory functions
• Work with Risk Managers to identify and resolve risk issues that impact capital
• Partner with Regulatory Controllers, Finance and Treasury to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
• Engage in extensive project work to develop regulatory processes
Skills Required:
• Thorough understanding of Basel I and proposed Market Risk Rules and regulations, accounting principles relating to the securities industry; must understand the implications of current and proposed regulatory requirements relating to risk management
• Experience in a highly regulated environment and working with regulators;
• Solid in quantitative and analytical disciplines, ability to absorb new concepts quickly, analyze implications and make practical recommendations
• Knowledge of financial products is important, including an understanding of risk management concepts such as VaR, stress tests and the risk representation of portfolios.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to develop quality working relationships
• Ability to work independently with initiative and perform under pressure in a highly dynamic environment
• Fluency with MS Excel and experience with VBA; more generally, the candidate needs to be comfortable using many different tools to obtain and understand risk information
• Suitable candidates will have an excellent academic background, including a degree in finance, economics or other quantitative disciplines.
