Vice President, Needs Management
The VP, PMO Strategic Planning at LPL Financial is responsible for defining the project portfolio and ensuring it aligns with the strategic direction of the company. In doing this they are responsible for estimating all technology related projects, overseeing and managing the technology project pipeline, working to insert newly approved project into the existing roadmap, and defining the roadmap for the following year. They will also be responsible for managing the project change request process, executive reporting of the existing portfolio throughout the project year both of which require continuous engagement with several cross LPL functions including Strategy, Finance and Technology.
The VP, PMO Strategic Planning is expected to be familiar with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) so that the estimations can be as accurate as possible. This may require in depth knowledge of requirements solicitation, application development, logical and physical database design and networking. LPL Financial primarily employs the waterfall model but knowledge of more lightweight, adaptive methodologies such Agile are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Manage the project portfolio
o Project change request
o Portfolio reporting
o Overlay new projects/changes to project to the portfolio
roadmap
- Lead continuous estimation sessions and funnel output into the strategic roadmaps
- Driving the year end project estimations for the following year's project portfolio
- Oversee the portfolio auditing process ensuring that all projects have meet the defined audit procedures
- Manage, track and report on the portfolio's financial health
Abilities
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Strong planning, organizational and leadership skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to navigate a highly matrixed organization effectively
- Strong meeting facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong business judgment, problem solving and negotiating skills
- Ability to work in a team environment, motivate team members and influence behavior of others
- 12+ yrs experience in technology PMO organization
- Experience with large matrix teams/organizations in the financial services / brokerage industry.
- Bachelors required; Masters strongly preferred
- Previous estimation/strategic planning a must
- Comfortable presenting at an executive level
- Able to operate in a dynamic environment
