Vice President of Finance / CFO Privite Equity Industry Job
Position Summary
The Vice President, Finance Small Capitalization will play a key role in driving due diligence efforts with respect to potential investment opportunities and driving operational transformations and value in existing portfolio companies with revenues typically below $300M. In addition, the Vice President, Finance will work with and learn from a wide range of individuals, including seasoned finance and operating executives, experienced management consultants,and a range of investment professionals with deep deal experience. Specific responsibilities include:
Due Diligence:
- Performs detailed commercial and financial diligence of the historical and projected financial results of a target company, including assessing the quality of the earnings, cash flows and balance sheet.
- Work closely with the MA team, and the financial analysts assigned to projects, to develop complex, scalable and logical financial and operational models that accurately represent the performance of target companies.
- Drive data-driven analyses to clarify complex problems and support decision-making.
- Synthesize analyses and create clear, succinct communications materials to present context, points of view/insights, supporting proof points and actionable recommendations.
Portfolio Company Management:
- Lead/participate in key projects to drive growth or efficiency in the organization.
- Work closely with portfolio company management and Managing Directors to define and achieve “full potential” performance, drive operational restructuring or
transformation when needed and ensure achievement of operational blueprints and financial models.
- Work closely with portfolio finance executives to help create and maintain a high performance finance function and internal control environment.
- Assist in internal portfolio company review process.
. Travel loads may be 50% at times.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Ideal Experience
The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record and a minimum of ten to fifteen years of financial/accounting and operations experience. The preferred candidate will possess experience in the High-Tech/Manufacturing/Industrial sector showing rapid career progression and increasing responsibility in preferably in a few of the following areas:
- Has been in a CFO, Operational Finance, or senior Controllership position.
- Foundation in technical accounting; public accounting at a top-tier firm ideal.
- Experience leading and performing financial and operational due diligence on potential acquisitions as well as post integration desired.
- Experience transforming underperforming businesses into a successful and profitable businesses ideal.
- Exposure to tax-efficient structuring.
- Restructuring and turnaround experience gained at firms specializing in such is a plus.
- International experience a plus
- Experience within similar organizations of other PE firms will be considered.
- An MBA and/or CPA is a plus.
Critical Competencies for Success
Operational Savvy: Given the Vice President, Finance will be assisting in driving operational transformations and value in portfolio companies, the executive will need to have:
- Strong operational and financial management experience (i.e., capable of playing well beyond the numbers and deriving insights from the analyses).
- Key participant in prior operational and financial due diligence efforts, including
management interactions and data room analysis.
- Proven track record in leading restructuring and cost improvement actions or other
meaningful operational transformation efforts.
- Ability to build and revise large, complicated operating and/or restructuring models and be able to articulate the critical issues, key assumptions and structuring decisions.
- A quick study.
Financial Acumen and Leadership: With the team involved throughout the entire
investment life cycle, the Vice President, Finance must have:
- Excellent financial, accounting and auditing knowledge, experience and skills (CPA preferred).
- Experienced in forecasting and planning along with proven track record of working
cross-functionally in an organization to affect change and achieve operational results.
- High potential to become a strong leader and ability to develop people.
- Ability to perform accurate and efficient execution of data driven analyses yet at the same time be able to apply the 80/20 rule to quickly net out a situation on limited data and make maximum impact.
Communications/Personal Style: In a high performance, lean, collegial environment, this Vice President, Finance must have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and maturity; comfortable interfacing with senior executives and delivering a point of view.
- Outstanding communications and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with
particularly strong capabilities in the graphical display of quantitative information.
- Strong work ethic and be highly motivated.
