POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President Pension Benefits is a key member of Scotiabank'sTotal Rewards senior team working closely with the Senior Vice President and other team leads on setting and reviewing the broader Total Rewards strategy, principles and policies for the Bank.

The role is responsible for leading the design, policy, financial management and reporting, governance, and communication functions related to the Bank's global corporate retirement and benefits plans, including savings plans and share purchase plans, to support the business strategy and contribute to the Bank's ability to attract, retain, engage and reward employees. This position also provides key support for, and proactive advice and counsel on, the investment and administration functions related to these programs.

For this position, fluency in Spanish is an asset.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Direct highly visible program design and processes, including obtaining approvals from the Board of Directors, for programs such as the Scotiabank Pension Plan, the Canadian flexible benefits program and the Employee Share Ownership Plan. This includes directing strategy, policy activities and resources associated with developing and revising new and existing retirement and benefit programs globally.

2. As a key member of the Pension and Benefit Management Team, share in the fiduciary responsibilities of providing prudent management and oversight of the Bank's global retirement and benefit program assets, liabilities, policies and practices. This includes the administration and continued compliance of plans, communication strategy and education of plan members, and collaboration with Finance and Treasury on the funding, accounting and investment activities.

3. Direct the activities and resources (internal and external) associated with the detailed financial analysis, risk management and oversight of Scotiabank's global retirement and benefit programs to meet solvency and regulatory requirements.

5. Oversee the development of initiatives, programs and policies supporting the Bank's wellness goals and increase focus on prevention, leading to healthy employees, increased productivity and long-term sustainability of benefits programs.

6. Direct the activities (strategy, due diligence, deal negotiation and deal implementation) and resources associated with program issues arising from merger, acquisition, sale and internal integration situations. Act as an advisor to the business lines on such matters.

7. Advise Senior Executives and other key internal stakeholders on global pension and benefit matters, including executive pension and benefit arrangements. Maintain awareness of and involvement in industry developments, and represent the Bank on Canadian Banking Association committee/working groups.

8. Effectively lead and develop a team of professionals, motivating both individual and team performance by providing challenging work and learning/career growth opportunities.
