Project Management Business Analysis, working within the SAP group
Department overview
Markit’s Project Management and Business Analysis group is focused on project execution and best practices across the firm, bringing together product, development, infrastructure and other teams to deliver project initiatives.
Markit's SAP group provides all functional specification and technical development, delivery and management of our SAP platform. Our platform consists of ERP (ECC 6), BI(7.01) and BPC (7.5) with interfaces from and to other third party internal and external systems.
Position summary
The Project Manager's prime responsibility is to ensure that projects under their control produce the required products to the defined standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and cost. The Project Manager is also responsible for their projects producing a result capable of achieving the benefits defined in the business case. Must have experience of deploying SAP in the enterprise.
Duties accountabilities
For projects allocated to the post-holder by the Managing Director:
- Initiating projects, including producing Project Charters, Project Initiation Documents and Business Cases
- Preparing Project, Stage and if necessary, Exception Plans in conjunction with Team Managers and appointed Project Assurance roles, and agreeing them with the Project Board
- Monitoring and controlling the project, including reporting progress against plan to the Project Board, Programme Management and other stakeholders
- Directing and motivating the project team
- Agreeing any delegations and use of Project Assurance roles required by the Project Board
- Managing risk, including developing contingency plans
- Liaising with technology suppliers and procurement teams
- Taking responsibility for overall progress and use of resources and initiating corrective action where necessary
- Managing the change control process and any configuration management
- Agreeing technical and quality strategy with appropriate members of the Project Board
- Preparing the Lessons Learned report and defining any follow-on action recommendations required
- Preparing the End Project Report
- Identifying and obtaining any support and advice required for the management, planning and control of the project
- Being responsible for project administration
- Liaising with any suppliers or account managers
- Perform Resource Management and Project Support roles
- Supporting and delivering the SAP functional specifications.
- Support and management of SAP technical specifications.
Business competencies
Education and experience
- University graduate desirable
- Member of the Association of Project Management (APM) or the Project Management Institute (PMI) desirable
SAP Specific Knowledge and Exeperience
- SAP project experience of upgrades / implementations
- SAP functional knowledge e.g. finance / sales / HR /reporting
- SAP technical experience (ABAP Basis)
- SAP change control knowledge and experience
- Project status reporting
- Understanding of the ASAP methodology (SAP specific methodology)
- Management of internal and external resources (consultants / contractors etc)
- Experience of writing functional specifications for SAP across different SAP functional sets
Technical Awareness
Sound working knowledge of the following disciplines:
