Department overview
Sales is responsible for existing and new client revenue growth, contract renewals, protecting business at risk, and account development – mapping and understanding the needs of our clients to Markit’s solution, including developing client-specific business plans.
Position summary
Based in Tokyo, but spending significant time in Seoul, the successful candidate will be responsible for the sales to Korea of multiple Markit products with a particular focus on packaged solution-selling and managing the sales cycle to ‘sell- and buy-side’ clients. This includes understanding the client’s business / key needs / strategy / organization, under-covering business opportunities, articulating the Markit value-proposition, relationship development and ongoing account management, preparing / making presentations to the senior-level of a client organizations, deal generation and closure, carrying and achieving annual sales quota, as well as working closely with internal product teams, Legal and the client with respect to business/product development and localization, as well as contract processing, The candidate should be willing to travel regularly abroad to Seoul for business, as well as to other locations for training. Key is leveraging existing Korean financial market relationships to win new business as well as new clients. Proven sales success either in the Korean financial market either with a background in a financial firm or technology covering Korean banks, brokerages, the buy-side, hedge funds and insurance firms etc is key. The ability to manage and execute on a multi product sales pipeline is key, as is forecasting net business revenue and identifying new focused opportunities.

Business competencies
Education and experience
- University Degree or equivalent; Professional Qualification and advantage e.g. CFA
- Proven track record of relevant experience gained ideally from within financial services (e.g. banking/brokerage, buy-side firms and/or a financial technology vendor). The successful candidate will receive full training by Markit, but a background in a client-facing role from within or to financial institutions is a distinct advantage
- Existing relationships with Korean financial firms and proven consultative sales success is vital
- Derivatives knowledge is a distinct advantage
- Excellent understanding of the Korean and regional financial markets, themes, regulatory pressures etc
Commercial awareness
• The candidate should have a solid skill set around the use of administrative and support tools – Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, as well as excellent communication skills, be a highly motivated and proactive self starter, and have the ability to think strategically, not just tactically or reactively.
• Knowledge of financial products and/or technology, and a strong interest in and knowledge of financial markets and business/economics is a strong advantage.
• As mentioned above, the successful candidate must have existing strong relationships with Korean financial firms, including deep knowledge of the Korean market’s unique requirements/challenges.
